In reply to: Cari 's message, "In my house the remote is MINE!!!" on 10:49:04 05/22/02 Wed

My son emailed back:

"Definitely an interesting story. Gloria actually hands me the remote whenever I sit down in front of the television when she's been watching. I think this is because I typically want to push the "display" button about two minutes after sitting down to see what show it is and what the plot is...and I eventually want to skip commercials or back it up seven seconds to see what I missed at some point (remembering our lifestyle has completely adjusted to using ReplayTV for all our viewing).

"On the general subject of feeling the need to have the remote in-hand, though, I'd have to say they're pretty-much on target. I usually get frustrated when the remote isn't at
least within arm's length and a commercial comes on or I want to repeat the last few seconds (again, this is a ReplayTV thing). Even before ReplayTV, I believe I recall 'feeling much more comfortable' when the remote was handy."

And my daughter added:

"When my ex was here, after awhile, we had TWO remotes because he was such a control freak. During the commercials, he would surf, and then would change it just as I saw something that interested me. So, I started using the remote that came with Cable, and battling it out. He was using the universal remote that had all 3, tv, cable, vcr. For the last year, I went to another room to be on the mac, and had a small portable that had excellent color, and watched WHATEVER I WANTED TO."
