Subject: Did Condit kill Chandra Levy?

I know we should allow the crime scene investigators to do their thing, but I can't help speculate. Especially since I'll never be on the jury and nothing we say on this little board will have the slightest effect on the decisions made in this case or the reputations of the people involved.

First, are they likely to call this a homicide. I can't imagine they won't. The settings and the circumstances just aren't right for a suicide. The location of the body makes an accidental death unlikely.

Did Condit kill her? Too early to tell. Did he know things that might have led to the quicker locating of her body, thus a fresher crime scene? I suspect so.

I think at the very least he knew she was going to that area of the park that day and for whatever reason decided not to tell anyone. I think it quite likely he invited her to meet him there, accepted her invitation to meet there or intentionally lured her there.

I think it possible he arranged to have her killed, killed her himself or knows who did. It's also possible that she simply didn't show up for a meeting and to save himself embarrassment he didn't mention the intended meeting or her failure to arrive.

Think of it being the afternoon she disappeared. She checks travel plans home, potential romantic vacation spots on the internet and tells her aunt on the phone she may have big news to announce. Next she checks Condit's schedule for the day, calls his office and talks to him, checks the location of a mansion located in Rock Creek Park and leaves her apartment without her purse, credit cards, laptop or other personal belongings. Dogs later find her trail stops at the curb in front of her apartment building. All indications are she took a cab or was picked up by someone.

Now look at where she was found. Eight miles from her apartment in a remote area of Rock Creek Park, in heavy underbrush off the beaten path, and less than a mile from the mansion whose location she had just looked up on the internet before she disappeared. I suppose it is possible she grabbed a cab and went to that remote location to jog just before taking a flight home, but it's much more likely she went there to meet someone. The activities and words spoken prior to going there all seem to point to a clandestine meeting with the notoriously secretive Congressman Condit.

At the very least, I think this man may be quilty of obstruction of justice and he just might be a murderer. I won't send him an apology if I'm wrong. I don't think his re-election or any judgements of his character will ever be determined by my opinion.
