I am very good at directions based on map reading, distances or compass directions, except for the fact that I hate to write things down and and don't retain or follow them well without doing so. On the other hand, I am great at remembering and following directions based on landmarks. When having to give directions to others, I am constantly confronted with the fact that I have always reached my destination by landmarks and have never bothered to learn street names or highway numbers.

My 8 yr old absolutely fascinates me with how observant he is of landmarks and how aware he is of where we are, what path we need to follow and what our intended destination might be.
