Shoppers today stopped and craned their necks to see a 10m-high King Kong replica suspended outside the Hamilton City Council building near Garden Place.

The inflatable creature, which takes up nearly three floors, has been erected to promote the Special FX exhibition which opens at Exscite next to Waikato Museum of Art and History tomorrow. King Kong is part of the exhibition, which has come from Perth, Western Australia.

Libraries and museum manager Geoff Williams said Special FX would be one of the more high-profile exhibitions at Exscite.

"It is an interactive programme which allows visitors the chance to make their own movies using special effects technology."

Council social and community chairwoman Pippa Mahood said it was great to see Exscite more visible in the community. "I'm sure this exhibition will capture the imagination."
