How much do you need to lose? That question is hard to answer and often based on your particular goals. If you're losing Setting weight loss goals is probably one of the more difficult things to do when you embark on an exercise and/or diet program weight for your health, your goal might be more modest, say 4-10% of your current weight. But what if you have something more specific in mind like a certain clothing-

Set Your Goals
If you've determined you do need to lose weight, your next step is to set a reasonable weight loss goal for yourself. You can base your goals on any number of factors, but a great place to start would be the general recommendations set out by the American College of Sports Medicine which are 5-10% of body weight or one to two pounds per week.

Keep in mind that these calculations offer guesstimates. There are a number of factors that affect weight, so it’s best to take the results you get with a grain of salt. For example, BMI is affected by how much muscle you have…if you have more muscle, your weight might actually be higher than what is considered healthy on the BMI chart, even though you have a healthy body fat percentage.

- New 3E Game? -- Kaan, 10:49:05 02/17/01 Sat
Hey all. I think that I would be interested in starting up a 3E game. The one I am currently running is at a loss for a timeslot and as its players are participating also in some other games and cannot spare the extra time in most cases, I thought I'd make the effort to try and bring some more players into the fold. Right now I am gauging interest and if there is enough than I will probably be running a game. A few things about the what I plan to run:
-It will probably take place in Greyhawk but extensive knowledge of the setting is not required.
-It will be leaning towards the high powered side.
-I am looking to play weekly on Saturday at start times ranging from 5 a clock to 8 and going on for 3 or so hours from there.
-Looking for 4-6 players or maybe one or two more. Punctuality in showing is a definate plus.
-Philosophy: action is fun but rp is grand. Probably have at least 1 combat per session with more or less than that depending on the place.
Let me know.

- WebRPG -- AnvilX, 08:22:54 07/08/01 Sun
Now that WebRPG is a pay site what is everyone planning on doing? $10.00 for 3 months is not a bad price imho. But, Free is a lot better:) So, what are we going to do? We can run it through WebRPG, Open rpg (I think that is what it is called) or we can do it through IRC. I know that I have came across some rollers in the past that you can use for IRC. I will see if I can find them again. If someone knows of where they can be found please let us know to save time. There is also NetMeeting, I beleive this comes with all Windows programs. There would be the problem if someone is playing not using Windows. I know we tried this once before and it did not work, but we didnt really try to work out any of the kinks. Netmeeting could be cool if for nothing else than the White Board for pictures. Lets get some ideas going so we dont miss anymore games.

- New Realms based Campaign -- Morvolan, 05:03:57 04/24/01 Tue
I'm a Webrpg based DM and i'm looking for 5 or 6 players for my campaign which is based in the Forgotten realms and the Country of Sembia. It will be run Thursday nights and will start in about 3 to 4 weeks time. (After 20th of may at least.)
Sembians wise and trusting Council merchant seer has died and a new seer has been elected. His name Ochir Naal, a charismatic man with long flowing firey hair and the build of a warrior. However that was two weeks ago and the excitetment of a new seer has been taken over by the exceitment of war. The High Merchant Council of Sembia have decided to once and for all wipe out the Pirate scum and lay waste to the well feared pirate isles. With the motive being trade and money alot of city merchants are backing the campaign. The streets are busy with markets, and the weaponsmiths are working overtime.
Ochir Naal speaks of peace between Westgate and the dragon realms and with the people of Sembia. Two of the biggest rival trading nations becoming one. So working together the task will be made easier.
However hidden protests of the union are taking place in the city of Orduilin, some speak of the Harpers some speak of the Black network. Who ever it is, its lowering the morale of the people, as they whisper through the night.
So if you want a peice of the action, either to help wipe the plauge of the pirate isles or to stop the whispering of the unbelievers or even if you just want to taste the dangers of adventure. Then join the Band and head to the heartlands to the realm of Sembia.
If you want to join up then email me at pvshaw@hotmail.com Sending some details about yourself and a small story, either background or a tale. Just a little something so i know you have a little bit of imagination and flare which you could add to the group.
Also knowledge of WebRpg would be nice but not essential.

- Dogs of War -- fender, 12:17:37 12/11/00 Mon
I'm beginning a new 3Ecampaign within a month or two. I'm looking for between 4 and 6 players. I'm planning on running it whenever no one else is for now. Since the idea for swing shift DM's seems to be popular, I figured I'd jump on in. Though I'm planning for a long running campaign, it will be divisible into smaller adventures (but not real small). Let's assume for now that the setting will take place in FR. As much as I love a good scrap, this is not going to be just hack and slash. I will try to provide a good balance between them, but I expect players to role-play. Whoever is interested, just reply to this e-mail or post a message on the board (when I get it posted) . If you could, try and give me an idea of what you want to play, so I can build my story around you. This does not have to be written in stone. Please do not be overly concerned about a balanced party. Play what you want to play. Though try and aim for a little variety. We don't want a party full of fighters or anything of that nature. I will provide more details to whoever is interested. The sooner I have character information, the sooner I can start. Be warned! This is not a campaign for the weak-hearted. The danger presented to your characters will be very real. Thus, some may die.

- Seeking to DM possible Drangonlace Campaign -- Ghungadin, 14:19:39 03/12/01 Mon
I have recently got ahold of some copies of the D series Dragonlance modules, "Dragons of Deceit, Dragons of Mystery, etc..." and was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in starting a 2nd edition campaign with them. I would prefer to have 4 to 6 players. The modules recommend using pregenerated characters from the Dragonlance saga but there would be no problems with pc generated characters as long as we have a balanced group. Whatever the players decided would be fine with me. I'm thinking of running it once a week on sunday nights on openrpg or webrpg. If anyone is interested or you have more questions please write me at ghungadin@yahoomail.com
Thanks!

- Calling all DM's -- AnvilX, 07:05:50 02/12/01 Mon
Calling all DM’s! As usual we have more players than we have DMs. Often games fill up quickly and too many players slow a campaign down. So, I am trying to recruit DMs. So, if any DMs would like to run a game, please check out the rules (which are about to be revised and expanded a little) and then contact me at anvilx@mailcity.com . I can either link to a page you make or I can help you make one. I have the Forgotten Realms Atlas so I can provide you with almost any map you need. Also, I can provide NPC sketches etc. Anyone interested please let me know. We are looking for dedicated and responsible DMs. If you cannot stick with the campaign until it is finished, then don’t waste your time contacting me.

- 3rd Edition thoughts -- Marz, 01:36:40 09/14/00 Thu
Been reading the 3rd edition player's handbook and I must say I am impressed with what they have done. I was a firm believer that TSR had made a mistake with changing over from 1st to 2nd and it took me a LONG time to see all the pluses of the 2nd ED. I had my reservations about 3rd ED but I am very pleased. Many of the things we have been talking about for our house rules are already a base in the 3rd ED. I also really enjoy the feats. The system even allows for wizards to become proficient in swords and the like! I REALLY enjoy the weapon system, as each class has certain AREAS they know, and you can imagine fighters know damn near everything as they should about weapons. I also like the fact that character ability scores (such as STR, etc) increase as they gain levels. This reflects the fighter working out, the wizard learning more, cleric becomes more in tune with the world and in touch with his god, etc. This doesn't mean that a wizard can't weight lift to improve his STR, just used it as an example. I found it rather nice. I also like the 'd20' system they have come up with. The THAC0 is out. High AC is good now and -'s bad. If you have a +12 AC, someone needs to roll a 12 or higher to hit you. Simple. You add the bonuses from your STR to hit roll, he adds bonuses from DEX to his AC. Neat system and VERY easy to use. Skills have gone the way of the Star Wars system... being assigned a difficulty number and you need to roll higher than that number. The harder the task, higher the number, etc. I also am pleased with the races and limitations being removed. I will finally be able to play Marz as his original intent using the 3rd ED. I also LOVE the way infravision has gone... dark vision and low light. This is a DM's dream come true; no more confusion. I have been playing around with the character generator disk on the back inside cover of the PH and createing new characters for 3rd ED. I have my main bad guys done now, so watch out! Hehe. Anyway, if you are using this disk, be sure to log on the internet and check for updates. I downloaded the newest demo version and you can even get magic items for your characters now using this one (1.2 version). I will be buying the core rules for 3rd and the tools set.
As I read more, I am finding the 3rd edition more to my liking. Guys, I've been DMing for 12+ years now, and playing RP's for 17+... I am impressed the way it has gone. I will be buying the rest of the books and hope to run a 3rd ED game soon. Anyone interested can post here. I read almost daily. Later guys.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it appears that there are no rules written concerning "Rate of Fire" with ranged weapons. The only thing that I've managed to come up with is that loading a light crossbow is a move-equivalent action, a heavy crossbow is a full round action and that you can throw 3 shuriken in one round. How about throwing daggers or shooting bows? I cannot believe that they would say that throwing a dagger/knife or firing a bow is a full round action. That is completely absurd. Am I missing something here?

Hi,
I'm an experienced gamer with many years of AD&D experience who just bought the 3rd Edition PHB. I've read most of it, and I really like it. I'm suddenly very excited about playing some D&D. I haven't done any role-playing at all for about a year, but the more I read this new system, the more interested in it I become. I'd like to get involved in a game over WebRPG, so if anyone needs an additional player, let me know.
My favorite thing about 3E is the new multi-classing rules. Seems phenomenally cool, and makes me wonder why they didn't just do it that way to begin with . . . .

Hello all, I would like to start a discussion on home rules. These will not be the core rules so they will not interfere with characters moving to another campaign.
-EXP, for posting on the message boards. After all you are taking the time and it is IC so you should get something. The something depends on how well you do it and how well IC. This will be for RP no fighting outside of game sessions.
-Follow through and multiple attacks. Those that have muti attacks can split them between adversaries or if the combatants are close enough and you kill the first the next blow can be directed at another opponent. It just dose not make sense wasting all attacks on a dead adversary when there others about.
Who else has some home rules or things they would like to see changed?

- Questions -- AnvilX, 08:13:27 10/24/00 Tue
I have a couple questions for the group.
1) What are your thoughts on “Critical Hits”? I am thinking of using/making a critical hit chart. The past session that we had Gord(ina) had a crit rolled on her by a Winter Wolf, I deemed that the wolf almost took her arm off. Gord(ina) will be rolling at a –2 then a –1 till it is totally healed. I would also think that with a crit, the injury would still hurt and not be up to full strength even if the character was healed to full HP. I don’t like the idea that a potion or spell can make it all better and good as new, it’s too much of a give me. I do like the idea that a spell or potion can save you or pull you from deaths door, but not put you back at perfect health. As I understand it, a critical hit is a near death blow or one that does major damage. I am thinking of playing; where you can get full HP back, but still have difficulties with the crit area until time has healed it. How much time? I don’t know, maybe roll a 6 side and let that determine days or weeks? I am still playing with the idea and was wondering what the rest of you think.
2) Stats, I have always had a problem with how D&D does stats. I find it hard to believe that a 1st level character has the same stats as a 10th level character. If nothing else I would think their wisdom went up for all classes and their primary attributes went up in their chosen classes. I know 3rd edition has changed this, but I am thinking of incorporating this into 2nd edition. What are some thoughts on this matter and how do you think it could best be accomplished? Should a point be given to a character every couple levels to use as they wish, or should points be given and only allowed to be used on abilities that the character has worked on or used most?

- Kaan's 3E pseudo-campagin -- Kaan, 20:49:47 10/06/00 Fri
Okay, here goes:
I am NOT ready to run a full fledged campaign, at least in the way that I would want to. I haven't had that much experience in PLAYING D&D let alone DMing. What I am prepared to do is run a 3E game just for the sake of a 3E game. I envision us playing whenever a game is cancelled just so all of those who were ready to play can if they want to. It should be fairly casual and, depending on who plays or not, I think that people should be able to play different characters so when creating your characters don't put any deep and dark secrets in your backround or something. As for backround, keep it generic but feel free to think up quirky and interesting personalities for your characters. I don't really plan on keeping it totally coherent and continious or themed so if you guys want hack and slash, RP oriented, high powered, low powered, underdark, planar or whatever we can do that. As I said it should be casual.
Here are my character creation guidelines. with 3E being different than 2E I don't think the standard FRU house rules apply here:
-30 points for attributes(Don't freak out. First of all attributes mean more in 3E. A 12 in strength gives you +1 to hit and do damage. In the char gen, click the roll button and replace the 4d6 to roll your stats with the point buy system. Before doing anything, set the number of points to 30 and then distribute the points and you'll have a decent character in no time (I promise!)
-Make up your backround and keep it generic. Doesn't really matter what campaign setting. Greyhawk will be the unofficial official setting because we have the gods and domain powers for clerics laid out for us in the PHB but feel free to use elements from other settings within reason.
-Everything else by the book. Go through the char gen and fully create your character. Attach the file to an email and send it to me for review.
If you have any questions or don't have the PHB yet, talk to me. The next game is on for wensday because Marz won't be able to run his SotD game.
Also I am strongly considering using Netmeeting as our medium for my games. I think it will improve a number of things in addition to speeding things up because of the voice chat (even if only the DM has it). This probably won't happen in time for the game on wensday though so don't worry if you have problems with it. If you do, email me your concerns.

- My magnificent return and the 3E FR scene -- Kaan, 10:07:15 08/27/00 Sun
Hello all, good to be back!
(Waits for thunderous standing ovation to die down)
Thank you, thank you. I had a wonderfull vacation and rest assured I will be bragging about it during many sessions to come.
Now as I am the resident 3E whore I thought I would give you the 411 on the 3E FR scene. By that I mean I shall PLAGERIZE Eric Noah's site word for word so if you have been visiting his site regularly, at
http://www.rpgplanet.com/dnd3e/
you will already know everything I'm about to say:
The big ass FR hardcover containing everything you need to know will come out April 2001. Note that it is no longer a boxed set but a big assed book, kinda similar to the wait the Stardrive and Dark*Matter settings for Alternity were published. This big mofo of a book will set you back $40 and Sean Reynolds explains why:
"320 pages, full color, dense text (we over-wrote), information on lands that have never been covered before, new PC races, 53 new feats, 15 new prestige classes, 34 new domains, domain info on all of the living deities from the Faiths & Avatars trilogy.... All I can say is, when you get the book in your hands, you'll feel the price is justified. Did I also mention that the word count per page for the 1993 set was only about 650 words per page, where this book is going to run at least 900? So it's more like 440 pages (in page-equivalents of the 1993 set), not 320."
Some plagerized tidbits about it from Eric Noah's site:
-There will be a new page layout for the new products.
-Jim showed off some of the new concept art for the book. Looks very nice. The Simbul is a babe (of course!) Szass Tam looks creepy, Fzoul looks impressive. Artemis was pretty cool. There were a few others I don't recall (Elaith looked damn cool!), but I do remember that Manshoon looked strange, with some sort of face mask on. Other than that, the concept art was impressive.
-Zakhara, Kara-Tur, and Maztica are not going to be getting an update. It splits the fan base, and there are other regions that haven't been touched on at all that are closer to the "core" regions of Faerun that should be looked at.
-Ed asked if people would like to see information on merchants and trading in the Realms. He said it might be possible to work it into a Volo's article, but it would be a while in the future (about 2 years or so).
-Maps for the PDF products on the web will also be in the PDF format.
-Timeline will advance, and a rough conversion of Real World-Faerunian time has been worked out. For roughly every 5 years of Real Time, 2 years will pass in Faerun.
-The 3E FR team paid attention to some of the special things that characters in novels could do, in order to try and make it possible to create those characters without rule breaking.
-The main FR book will cover the "Top 40" deities used in campaigns, compiled from surveys Jim ran here on the list and elsewhere. There will be a section in the book that covers all the domains, favored weapons, portfolios, etc for all the deities, but only 40 will get an in depth treatment. They are probably going to do a deific expansion (Jim says preferably as a single large book), but not soon.
-No more 64 or 96 page products.
-As we know from elsewhere, the campaign book will be 320 pages, hardbound, with the map included..
-For the Open Gaming License-no Realms modules will be produced via OGL. Smaller adventures will be put in Dungeon magazine, which has been expanded, mini adventures might be included in some products as well.
-The D&D Core design team is working on high level characters right now.
-There are plans for a supplement specifically dealing with Faerunian Magic, tenatively called MAGIC OF FAERUN. It will be roughly 192 pages or so. Other seminars indicated that it will include lots of information on Gates, and gate networks.
-The magic level of the Realms will stay roughly the same level.
-The Red Wizards of Thay are going to be turning over a new leaf...kind of. They're going to be following a path similar to the Venitians in the 14th/15th century in our world, setting up enclaves in other cities and countries. There, they will produce some of the cheaper magical items (potions and scrolls), and basically trying to expand their reach through trade and guile rather than the brute force approach that hasn't gotten them anywhere.
-Villains are going to stop being stupid. (Big cheers for this one).
-Stuff that they're planning on releasing: February should see the Book of Monsters, with the D&D and FR logo's; April will see the HC release; there will be a Pool of Radiance 2 tie in, the Magic of Faerun book; they are also beginning to think about some things for 2002.
-Elminsters level being lower than Halasters-El doesn't care
-Halaster, and most other powerful mages, are insane in some way or another. They obsess on something, and concentrate on that. They also get used as tools by Elminster, the Chosen, and Mystra. Halaster knows this, and resents it, but also knows that it's only because of the efforts of Elminster and others that he has even his brief moments of lucidity...
-Southern magic (ie, Mulhurondi, requiring a specific spell to read) is gone. They thought that the idea of having to have a special version of RM to do it was a little strange.
- Will there be more geographic expansions? Eventually.
-Wild magic areas are going to be seen less frequently, relegated mostly to dungeons and DM decisions. One of the "in game" rationales that Sean mentioned was the fact that the Tormytes have been doing their best to remove them for the last 12 years or. Same for dead magic areas. Wild mages aren't going to be in the FR HC, but will be discussed, at least briefly, in then Magic of Faerun book.
-Will we be seeing more city states expand into kingdoms/empires, ala Silverymoon->Luruar and our own world history? Some changes of that nature will be discussed. It won't be RSE, but there will be some information.
-Why did they kill off Azoun? The overall storyline was heading that way, so they took advantage of the situation
-This years Dragon Annual will have Ed's commentary and expansion on the DEATH OF A DRAGON storyline.
-The FR Encyclopedia Project. The bean counters took a look at the project, calculated the cost, and ended up with a $1 million price tag. They're still collecting and collating the data, but they aren't sure what will happen with it.
-There might be more Cormyr novels-the title of the story has gone from the Cormyr Trilogy to the Cormyr Saga
-With 3E, some big characters *coughElminstercough* might change some, but not a lot. Some charaacters might change class (ie, some wizards may become sorcerors, some fighters -> barbarians, etc).
-Prestige classes mentioned for the FR HC: Archmages, Master Harpers, Purple Dragon officers, Red Wizards
-The timeline will jump ahead a few years (roughly, 1372), but not much more than that, as too big a jump creates too many problems with continuity and campaigns
-The original Undermountain was 12 levels, with 16 sublevels; there is plenty of room for expansion.
-Possibly a super-module aventure for returning to Undermountain.
-More history products? Not specifically dedicated to history, as they tend to 1) split the consumers, and 2) take away some of the mysteries.
-One of Rich Baker's dream projects: an Ancient Empires sourcebook, covering the Imaksari, the Narfell peoples, and all the rest.
-More Arcane Age products? Not as individual products, but some information could appear in other products.
-Currently, there are no more Volo's Guides on the schedule. Dragon Magazine may start including more info.
-RUINS OF ANAUROCH comic-there are two issues out (or at least Jim has seen the second one). Steven Schend is apparently going through the remaining issues and providing more dialogue.
-Possibility of including Volo-style sidebars in future products, discussing inns, taverns, etc.
-On the Elven Retreat-all the elves who were going to leave have left...and just because the elves of *Cormanthor* left doesn't mean elves everywhere left...
-There will be more information on Gates in the Realms in the future, in an effort to increase connectivity in the Realms, and to provide more use from the various geographical supplements.
-A game product on Sembia? It's a major focus in the HC.
-Realms Outer Planes-the Realms will have their own Planes setup, to reflect the natures and connections of the Realms deities.
Art: All of the art will be brand new. Those who saw the art clips at the FR preview know that this new look won't allow us to recycle the old art.
A New Look: We will be changing the FR art style to more closely match with Third Edition D&D. Those who were at Gen Con got to see a sneak peak at some of the iconic characters we've sketched out, and everyone seemed to like the changes.
Why not sell it for $20 like the PHB? If we could sell as many copies of the FR hardcover as we can the Player's Handbook, offering it for $20 would be feasible. Alas, such is not the case.
Geographic Expansions: ...the current thought as that we'll do one geographic expansion a year. The first year is the main campaign setting book, so we won't expand beyond that in the first year.
Not Just Collecting and Organizing Old Stuff: ...the main reason for relaunching the game was to revitalize it and fix what was broken. It wasn't to condense all the rules down into a few main books again or anything else
Those of you who have been to amazon may have seen the setting ready for pre-ordering. Some official Wotc comments on it:
About specialty priests: Each of the gods will have their own class for cleric, but this isn't a prestige class (just a cleric done for FR like those portrayed in the PH are done for Greyhawk). Harpers, Zhents, Red Wizards, and others make good candidates for prestige classes.
About coverage of Maztica, Zakhara, Kara-Tur, and other areas of the world: We'll be giving a brief (paragraph or so) coverage of these areas, but we won't be devoting a great deal of space to them. There's so much core information we have to cover in this product, that there just isn't room for us to give extensive coverage to these fringe areas.
About the cover seen at Amazon.com: I'd like everyone to keep in mind that this is just prototype art used for the catalog. We're still lookng at options for changing the cover treatment, internal layout, and a logo change. ...We're currently looking at the logos to see if we can come up with something better than we have now. If we can't, then we'll stick with the current logo. But there are some very good reasons to change the logo: 1.) It establishes a new look for an old brand that hasn't been significantly updated in years. 2.) It lets people immediately identify a new Third Edition Realms product. 3.) It gives us a chance to bring the cover treatment up to current standards and set a benchmark for other campaign worlds to follow.
Description: 320 pages; full color; fold-out map included.
But that ain't all, folks. In addition to the basic campaign book there will other things. For instance, February will see the release of a "Monsters of Faerun" book. This will be more along the traditional $20 dollar range. A hand dandy plagerized list of monsters that will be in it:
Aaracokra; Aballin; Abishai; Alaghi; Asabi; Banedead; Baneguard; Banelar; Bat, Deep (Bonebat); Bat, Deep (Night Hunter); Bat, Deep (Sinister); Beast of Malar; Beast of Xvim; Beholder Mage: Prestige Class; Beholder-kin, Death Kiss; Beholder-kin, Eyeball; Beholder-kin, Gouger; Bullywug; Chitine; Choldrith; Chosen One; Cloaker Lord; Crawling Claw; Curst; Darkenbeast; Dark Tree; Deepspawn; Demon, Ghour; Demon, Yochlol; Doppelganger, Greater; Dragon, Brown; Dragon, Deep; Dragon, Fang; Dragon, Shadow; Dragon, Weredragon; Dragonkin
That is most of the complete info I have on the upcoming stuff. Also slated to be released: A magic of Faerun book(No date info yet); A Dieties and Demigods book sometime in 2002. Well that's it.
Now talk amongst yourselves and bask in the glory that is 3E. Or just talk amongst yourselves.

Watch the party in-fighting with no purpose... I have more than enough stuff to throw at ya that you don't need to fight with yourselves. If you want to, fine, but this is just a reminder that someone will be insulted and leave the group. No need to drive players away from peoples game guys.... so please watch it and keep it in character if it is so. Thanks.
