Arietta looked up at her mom, and in one of the few moments of assertion in her life, looked toward the door and followed Kodoku. Michiru smiled, and shook her head.
"Haruka," she looked up at the blonde woman. "It's already bad enough that my Arietta is so shy, and I never say anything to her like you just said to your daughter."
"Hai," Haruka lowered her eyes, "it's just, sometimes I get this feeling that--"
At this point in their conversation, Arietta was out of earshot. She followed Kodoku, and grabbed her elbow, not roughly, however.
"Hey Kodoku," she began, "when I was thirteen I couldn't even swim that well, let alone focus on the energies of the water. Even if you can't listen to the wind as well as your mother--" images of Arietta feeling so feeble next to the bravery and prowess of her mother flashed through her mind, and she couldn't even believe the next words that came from her lips, "the fact is, you aren't your mother. You're you. And she needs to realise this."
Arietta looked down, biting her lip. She wondered if her little speech had done anything but make Kodoku angry. Afterall, it was one thing if Kodoku said somethin about her mom. Having someone else make a judgement might make her defensive.
