Net Love

The black XR2 pulled up outside her house with virtually no sound, the light from the street lamp glistening off of the gleaming bodywork. She knew that this must be him, they had never met only spoken for what seemed like forever but which was in fact only 18 months, and she hoped that this meeting would be as special as she had hoped for. As she opened the door she stood momentarily and gazed into his deep brown eyes as though searching his soul for what he intended, then with no more than a whisper she invited him inside the house. Uncharacteristically rather than let him into the front room she showed him straight to the bedroom, poured him a drink and went off to get changed.

As he sipped at his drink he decided to get undressed, he did so and laid back on the bed, the curtains billowed like sails on a yacht, in the breeze that blew through the open window. The moon was sending down a gentle luminescence that filled the room with an eerie glow but which set the mood perfectly for what was to come, then out of the corner of his eye he saw her.

She stood in the doorway clad only in a silk gown that became almost see through in the moonlight, he rose to meet her, standing close looking longingly into her beautiful eyes but not touching. Something unspoken passed between them and they both knew this was what they had been waiting a lifetime for.

He took her by the hand and gently pulled her close to him kissing her softly on the mouth, she responded by letting her gown drop to the floor. Her body gave a quiver either with excitement or due to the cool night breeze that still blew through the open window, he wasn't sure of which but the thought stirred him still. He kissed her with more passion now, passion that had welled up inside of him for months, passion that he had not felt with anyone else nor wanted to share with anyone else. He knew inside of him that it was her that he wanted and it was her that he had spent his life in search of.

They stood in the doorway and he held her in his arms, probing the very depths of her sensuous mouth with his tongue telling her without words that he would never let her go, she gave a shiver as she felt his now fully erect penis pushing softly into her belly and with a sweet smile motioned towards the bed.

He laid her down gently on the bed and placed himself beside her, still kissing her fervently, he wanted every kiss to say what words alone could not express, and as they kissed, his callused hand rubbed softly over her naked frame causing her to wriggle as it tickled her.

Then he turned his attentions to her neck and shoulders still as gently as he could moving his way back and forth across her body settling finally on her nipple, his tongue working it until hard before moving on to the other one. All the time he tickled her gently from legs to chest, his hands strayed from their activity for just a moment resting on her love mound, he smiled as he played and teased her softly but nothing more not yet as he wanted this moment to last forever. This night was filled with infinite possibilities and he wanted to explore them all with her, suddenly he stopped his playing and looked her in the face she gave him a smile and he pulled her close to him once more. What he wanted right at this moment more than anything else in the world was to kiss her, to love her, the sex he knew would eventually come paled in insignificance to what he felt right now. He let his love flow through his body hoping that deep inside her she would feel it and hold onto it forever, his heart now belonged to her and nobody could ever take it away. He let his fingers softly push the hair away from her eyes and there he saw a single tear. Gently he wiped it away and spoke for the first time that evening, "Don't be sad my love, I'm here now and I'll never go away". The look she gave him said that she had understood his words and that the meaning they held for her was the same as they did for him. He kissed her again, more softly now though letting his lips just touch hers, she could feel his unshaven face against her own but he didn't force it, he just let the moment linger. He had to let her know how important this was to him and that anything else that happened that evening was a bonus, and that if she changed her mind he would love her just as much as before. She looked at him with her dark eyes but somehow she looked sad, as though although she had waited a lifetime for the fates to determine where her soul mate could be found, she still did not believe that this day had finally come. He made a silent vow never to let her down, as he knew in his own heart that nothing could come as close to perfection as what he held in his arms this night. As he lay on his back she moved over and placed her head upon his chest, she raised her head and kissed him sweetly on the cheek. And on doing so any doubts he had previously held, any thoughts of rejection that had festered deep in his mind were washed away like debris in the tides. For the first time he knew, she was his, and her decision had been made, she wanted this to happen as much as he had hoped and dreamed and that they shared the same thoughts of the future.

A future together.

Part two

As he drove away, the magic of the night still on his mind, he looked in the mirror and saw her standing at the doorway waving him goodbye. The image of her imprinted on his mind was with him the whole journey back home and no matter how hard he tried he could not shake it off. This was a new feeling to him and he wasn't sure how to handle it.

Of course he'd had girlfriends before and he had cared for them deeply, but nothing he had felt before came remotely close to what was buzzing around his brain now. He got out of the car and opened his front door, not even noticing the mail on the floor he went inside threw his keys on the table then flopped unceremoniously into his armchair. Tears came unbidden to his eyes as the realisation of her absence enfolded him, he needed her, she was his life and no matter what happened from here on in that would always remain so. He reached for the phone then paused, should he phone her? Would his eagerness frighten her off? He decided to throw caution to the wind and picked up the phone. His impatience began to tell on only the third ring and he started to feel as though his life was slipping out from underneath him, then the ringing stopped and an angelic voice said simply "Hello." As the sounds reached his ears he thought his heart would burst and struggled for something to say, finally his thoughts gathered he spoke. " Darling it's me, I'm just phoning to say, I mean that is, oh damn it I love you girl, I need you I want you to be mine forever."

He had thought he would be able to express himself more eloquently than the stammered words that issued from his now dry mouth, but the moment had passed. He had said what he had said and could not change it now even if he wanted to. Softly came her reply, her voice like gossamer wings beating in the air, " I love you too, more than anything in the world". His heart soared higher than the eagle, higher than the sky itself. After all the times they had spoken, even after the previous night he had not been sure it was not all just a cruel dream sent to torment him, but now they had shared their feelings fully, this was love.

Three hours passed before he replaced the receiver and as he did he jumped into the air and punched out with joy, he skipped happily into the kitchen and made himself something to eat and drink. As he went back to the lounge he finally noticed the mail in the hallway he picked it up and took it in with him, bills for the most part but one in particular caught his eye, from the hospital. Curiously he opened it and read through the letter enclosed, "Dear sir" it began "could you please contact us as soon as possible regarding your test results".

"Test results?" he said allowed, "Oh of course the medical examination I went for" he picked up the phone to contact them but decided instead to go and speak to them in person. It was a lovely sunny day outside and he wanted the world to see how happy he was, so with his windows down and sunroof open he drove to the hospital smiling to himself. He checked in at reception and sat down waiting for the doctor to see him, ten minutes passed before his name was called and almost springing out of the chair, went in to speak with the doctor.

"Please sit down" the doctor said with a shaky tone to his voice "I'm afraid there's bad news" "bad news" he replied "what could possibly be bad on a day like this". "Well there is no easy way to say this so I'll get to the point" The doctor began. " I'm afraid your test results have shown you have terminal cancer, and at the stage it is in you may only have six months left to live". "But, but I've felt no pain, I, I feel as fit as a fiddle" he stammered as his world started to fall apart in front of his eyes. "You Have had headaches yes?" Asked the doctor "well yes but that's part of the job I do, all the noise etc." "Well I'm afraid they're more likely due to the Tumour we found, I know this is hard for you to accept but we may have a chance if we operate as soon as possible".

Stunned he sat in silence not even seeing or hearing the doctor, all he could think about was his love. He had taken Thirty Two years to find her and now cruel fate was going to take her away from him by reason of his own demise. He stood and promising to call the doctor as soon as possible left the room, what could he tell her? He couldn't share this with her, not so soon it would destroy her. He didn't remember the journey home, he didn't even remember opening the front door and entering his home, he sat down and began to cry.

Part three

As she replaced the telephone handset she smiled, after all the hurt she had felt in years gone by, finally she had found someone to love someone to love her. She knew in her heart that he was a good man and would look after her for the rest of her life, To feel secure was unusual but such a nice feeling. She went about her daily routine as normal humming softly to her self in time with the radio, her thoughts always with him and the plans they would make for their new life together.

The day passed quickly, evening once more began to draw its cloak of darkness over the world, and she sat listening to music and reading her book. An uneasy feeling washed over her that she could not shake and without knowing exactly why she decided to telephone him.

"Hello" he said as he answered her call "Hi" she said " Its me " something was not right, he had a catch in his voice that she did not understand. "What do you want?" he said almost too angrily " Leave me alone damn you", "Darling what's wrong why are you saying this " she replied with an agonised voice. "Don't you get it" he said," I got what I wanted from you now it's over" with that he slammed the telephone down. She knew there was more to this than he was letting on and although the tears flowed freely down her cheeks she resolved that she would find out what was wrong.

With the night came the wind and the rain, and torrents of water fell from the darkened sky as she drove to see him. She had never been to his house but the map and the directions he had provided were lying next to her, and she was sure she would find the way. There were no lights on this stretch of road and she did not see the fallen branch until it was too late, she swerved to miss it and with a massive jolt the car came to rest in the ditch at the side of the road. A trickle of blood ran down the side of her face, and she could taste a coppery taste in her mouth, she screamed his name once before blacking out.

As she opened her eyes a blinding light filled her gaze and she was sure that she had died, but as her vision became normal, she saw that she lay in a hospital bed. She looked around the room and saw a figure slumped in a chair by the side of the bed, it was him, in a weak voice she called his name, and watched as he sprang out of the chair to take her hand in his. "Darling I'm sorry, I didn't mean what I said It's just," he left it hanging "go on" she said softly. " No it can wait until you're feeling stronger" she looked into his eyes with a steely gaze and said simply "I need to know now my love, which is why I was coming to see you." He knew he would have to come clean about why he said what he had, but did not want to cause her pain, a sudden realisation came to him that in actual fact, his not telling her to begin with had nearly killed her. He felt so guilty as he saw her damaged body laying there but finally he looked into her beautiful eyes, gathered his composure and said, " I Have cancer, I'm dying and unless I have an operation I have only six months left to live." He had told her, he winced slightly as she squeezed his hand "then we will get through this together wont we my love?" Although her words warmed him he could not help feeling that he was ruining her life, she would grow to love him more over the months and if he was to die it would destroy her, but for now they would concentrate on getting her well.

It took two weeks before she was fit enough to leave hospital, and they had decided to move in together so that she could help him through his operation, it was only a day away and she packed his case ready and made him the final meal he would be allowed before being admitted. They sat together eating and talking about the future, but he was uncertain he had one, she tried to reassure him that no matter what she would always be there for him, but he still felt so scared. They went to bed that night and made love, all the passion that they had felt on that first night was repeated, only this time he wanted to hold her all night, as though savouring it in case it would be his last time.

The hospital seemed more dark and foreboding than he had remembered it, they both went through to the ward and were shown to his bed, they had already decided that she would stay the whole time, and would be present when the anaesthetic was administered. The day passed slowly, and when night fell, she slept in a cot by the side of his bed. Morning came and the sun rose on the horizon shining brightly as though in tribute to the work its brother moon had done that night, doctors and nurses bustled around doing their jobs to perfection providing breakfast to the masses, administering medicines and potions to unwilling patients, until finally they came for him.

She held his hand tightly as the anaesthetist plied his trade, he felt the warm flow as it entered his blood stream, his vision began to blur and he turned his head to face her, fixing the vision of her perfect features in his mind for eternity, then he was asleep. As the porters took him to surgery she walked along side never letting go of his hand for a moment, when they came to the operating theatre the nurse took her to a private waiting room to wait for news of the operation, she sat alone sipping on sweet tea and praying that he would come through this. Hours passed with no news, and the more time that went by, the more nervous she became, she began pacing the room almost like an expectant father, she read countless magazines not really taking any information on board. Finally the door opened and the surgeon stood facing her, she tried to read his expression but found she could not, an age seemed to pass before he spoke and her heart wanted to explode with the anticipation but he eventually opened his mouth to speak. Everything seemed to move in slow motion from that point, like an action reply of the moment, and as his words reached her ears, she thought her heart would stop.

Part four

"Ashes to ashes dust to dust", "I'm really sorry there was nothing we could do", "There were complications" "He was a good man" "we commit his body to the ground" "Darling I will love you always and I'll never leave you".

The voices of the past fortnight swirled around her head intersecting with each other to make total gibberish, she had wept openly at the hospital, she had wept openly at the graveside, she had spent the last two days sitting staring into space often crying, occasionally sleeping but mostly just thinking. Now she felt angry, he had lied to her "I'll never leave you" he had said "But you did leave me" she screamed, " I need you and cant live without you, why, why did you have to go?" a cold sensation worked its way down her spine and she shivered involuntarily "I didn't leave you" a voice said from behind her. She spun around quickly to face whoever owned the mysterious voice, only to find what appeared to be her love standing facing her, she raised her hands and shouted to nobody in particular "First you take him from me now you taunt me with dreams" tears came once again to her eyes and her cheeks became wet in an instant. "I am not a dream beloved, come, take my hand I need to show you something" warily she took his hand as he led her out of the house, as the door opened a light brighter than the sun shone in her eyes and she flinched momentarily. Green fields and rolling hills lay before her, animals grazed unconcerned by their presence, the whole thing overwhelmed her, "where is this place?" she asked him "all in good time" he replied cryptically. She realised she could actually feel his hand as though there was flesh instead of what she thought to be no more than a spirit, she felt confused by it all but continued to follow him across the vast field.

Eventually after what seemed to be at least an hour he came to the top of a hill and stopped "time has no meaning here my love" he spoke as though sensing her thoughts and stood facing her looking deep into her eyes "our bodies before death are no more than a vessel to carry our essence's" he began "when we have learned what we need we can leave our bodies and begin our journey to the heavens, but sometimes we can transcend the need for learning by way of true love, all obstacles and barriers can be overcome by way of love and anything is possible, do you accept what I say?" She thought about it before replying, still not completely understanding his words, "yes I accept it" a warm feeling came over her and knowledge once hidden deep in her mind came to her unbidden, "I, understand" she said "then follow me once more my love" with that he turned to a door that had appeared from nowhere and motioned for her to step through. She saw a man bending over a woman in a chair, she seemed familiar somehow as did the room they were in. The man was pressing his fingers to the side of her neck, he turned to the man standing next to him and said "she is dead, time of death approximately three hours ago" she turned to her love, to look into his eyes " yes it is you my darling, you have transcended the mortal coil to be with me, it was your choice and now we can be together always" he smiled a beaming smile, one she remembered from their short time together, he took her hand and led her from the room." Promise me something" she asked him "promise me that you wont be taken from me again, I couldn't bear it a second time" "I promise you with all that I am, with all my heart and soul that never again will we be parted" he smiled at her again then hand in hand they left the mortal world to be together forever.

True love will bind thee

And hold thee forever

True love will find thee

Be thee doltish or clever

True love will show thee

The joy borne of youth

True love will give thee

A love made of truth.
