If she gets these phrases first and foremost from what she hears, then I'd say she just hears them wrong, and simply doesn't make the connection when she sees the same phrases written down--or else doesn't consider that she's the one who got the phrase wrong, and instead thinks that the other person is the one who misunderstands.

But if she picks these phrases up from what she sees other people type, then God knows how she manages to mangle them. First thing that comes to mind is dyslexia. Certain kinds of mistakes, such as reading 'for' as 'from', would make sense in that respect. And confusing 'getgo' (although I usually see that as a hyphenated word) as 'gecko' is a misreading in the same vein, if a bit of a stretch. However, you'd think that she'd be able to puzzle out the illogic of 'from the gecko' and realize that she botched the expression.

But that doesn't explain how she can manage to mangle entire phrases as well as single words.

What I want to know is, what is it with LQ picking up words she's gotten from other people, and applying them with Russian Roulette logic? I accused her of being narcissistic a few weeks ago, and she's used that word rather...randomly, several times since. It's also my fault that LQ has added 'jutting' to her personal dictionary. And instigate and blatant. I hate when she does that. None of us would have any need for employment if we got royalties for adding to LQ's vocabulary.
