Oh, it occurs to me that in that last post, I sound pretty stupid. I was pretty sure pulchreditude wasn't a real word, but I've taken to looking up everything I'm not positive about, in order to avoid the same malapropisms that LQ is so famous for. I had heard the word pulchritude before, but I admit I wasn't sure what it meant before I looked it up (after checking pulchreditude, just to be sure).

I have a reasonably large vocabulary, but there are still a great many words I'm not familiar with that others use in their active vocabulary, particularly here and on the GAFF forum. I'm always looking to increase my vocabulary...and to do so properly, making sure I know what words mean before I use them. I can usually tell when reading something what it means by context, but if I'm going to use the word myself, I'd prefer not to sound stupid.

Oh, off topic...one of my favorite series of books, the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, is wonderful in part because of the sheer number of words I had to look up because I wasn't positive what they meant...but they were all properly used, of course. I love books that challenge the mind.
