Call it 'Power Campaign' if you will.

It doesn't happen in Dungeons and Dragons often, because of the strict power rules, but when you're an avid RIFTS player, you see it constantly.

People like being power characters.

Honestly, I'm guilty of it too. I admit freely that despite my characters having 'quirks' per se...not too many that I can think of have actual obvious weaknesses. (A couple that come to mind are Deux's mental state and Zee's blindness...Both of which don't matter unless you've played with me before and so you can completely disregard this statement.) But on the other hand, I'm known for playing Gods, Demi Gods, Trickster Demons and Over Armed Cat Alien Pirates.

But you have to understand too that this is a 'roleplay', which is a game. If the GM/DM/ or BM is ok with it, then it doesn't matter. It isn't a story that is going to be published, or even a fanfic...It's merely some kids having a ficticious adventure over an internet board.

For some it may be the first time they've played---so they try to make their characters as 'cool' as possible. That's no problem. The characters may be brand new, so they might develop more of a personality and history for that character later on. Again, no problem. You just have to let it go.
