"SPACE CENTER, Houston, Feb. 1 — The space shuttle Columbia plummeted to Earth in flames and crashed in central Texas on Saturday soon after reentering the atmosphere en route to landing. The spacecraft and its seven crew members fell through the sky as thousands of witnesses watched in horror, and Texas law enforcement agencies reported debris fields all over the state."
