I speak with sadness and a great deal of concern from the south of England as it seems that there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the SNU and the way it appears more interested in the material rather than the spiritual. Despite protests to the contrary the natural justice element of the Bye-laws and Rules for Churches is lip service and only there to make it look good.

Supervision of churches is at a very high level for all sorts of reasons, many spurious from what I can discover. Dealing with the SNU is not easy and the General Secretary is the one who fronts the NEC. They do very little without his saying it is ok to do so.

There is a one way flow of information with the SNU. They want yours and they give nothing in return. The Rules for Churches 2011, Rule 28 and BYE-LAWS, Section C of February 2012 CONDITIONS OF AFFILIATION AND ASSOCIATION both refer to what the SNU can do if it considers that there is miconduct by churches but there is nothing indicating how the SNU will support churches. The reason is that they don't. They will sting you for fact finding rubbish that a primary school child could do better, give you no chance to respond to the allegations. then impose supervision with a view to taking your church over. Often it seems the supervisors have little idea of what it is all about and though sometimes well meaning are not any use.

Sound fanciful - no only too familiar a story repeated far too often. The reality is that the SNU has become judge and jury rather than a guiding hand. It has all become about money. The material is king rather than spirit being king.

The other thing that has become apparent over the years is the number of churches that seek to disaffiliate from the SNU and how they have made it harder for churches to do so. For those who rent hall it is easy. Walk away from the SNU and start again next with as an independent church. For those that are in local trust and own the building through trustees it is more difficult as the church is held in trust for the members and the SNU will do all they can to get the church and all the money. Quite tempting to let them have it and tell them where to get off but even better if the church can find away to disaffiliate and move on without the SNU.

Why are we in this position? The SNU has lost its way. It has become driven by administrators who are building empires and out subscriptions are supporting this quite unnecessary and unhelpful group.

I am interested in hearing from all people or groups that have become 'victims' of the SNU and its Rules and Bye-laws so that details may be collated on one website with a history of each church or centres demise through the SNU.
