THIS IS MY OPINION if the charity commission have a strict criteria which you’d have to meet, and I believe would be audited regulary, if you are dealing with the public in relation to monies; monies obviously have to be monitor by the committee but every society every business every individual is under the law of the land which protects the individual (the consumer/member of public) from any discrimination (eg racistism, sexual gender, equality act 2010 etc) any fraudulent activities and as I am sure people are aware even a neighbour can sue a neighbour these days so a civil suit can be brought against any individual /or committee / society at any time if the believe there is any wrong doing. But obviously they would need to seek legal advice on this.
When things are run properly equitable fairly justly in the proper manner which is open honest and transparent and audited internally/externally no such problems should a raise.
The charity commission oversees the charity concerned and my belief is if there is a breech of the rules eg breeching of equalities act charity status it can or may be with drawn, and not forgetting health and safety which is a legal requirement for dealing with members of the public and committee to work with in a safe environment, whether it be in doors or out doors and subsequently there should be risk assessments to protect the individual from any potently hazards and harm/ and this also applies to members of the public eg safe systems of work
If any person/s should suffer harm through the charitable event then there is a potential for legal action and health safety (HSE) that is the reason why risk assessments are so important and the auditing of such and also CRBs if working with members of the public and minors . I am sure some organisations will have all this in place but it is worth checking with your committee in relation to the above as only they would have the answer to whether they have an insurance that covers you whether you need one or whether you are exempt under the charities however, one thing I am very certain of any individual can take civil action against another individuals if they believe they have suffered injury and believe they can evidence this, and also to the organisation to which you are involved with
One thing I’d like to mention and I don’t really know the answer as it is quite complicated and I think it relates to both parties if a charity hosts an event, eg, clairvoyance evening and people book and come to the event which has been advertised by the charity; the evening of clairvoyance goes ahead , and the evening goes as planned the charity received half the monies and the organiser of the clairvoyance evening takes the other monies to be evenly distributed for expenses etc (now this is where the tricky bit is lol) does the charity ask to see insurance /professional indemnity of the sitters or not because,
if a complaint then comes in which would be under the “consumer protection act” and the individual believes they have suffered harm and wishes to pursue a civil claim and the host has not checked the indemnity (are they both equally responsible because it was held on the charities premises and the credentials should have been checked, this is an enfect like inviting some one in after advertising an event not checking status taking some of the donations held on their premises and then saying having nothing to do with it when they have had a part in it (in my opinion) the recently event where they are looking to see if a firework display had any bearing on a motorway disaster this which potently if found it has could have ramifications for that committee eg civil action as risk assessments should have been carried out and if the wind was blowing in the motorway direction then that may have needed the formulation and adjustment of plans eg placing it in another direction or moving to and alternative venue or postponing the actual event this is why risk assessments are so very important God bless the people involved

One more thing I will say is if you receive or donating then you have not part to play in the action but if are organising events that is what you need to check out insurance

I hope this has helped you in some way
