Trepet's VMRO and the nationalist organizations in Skopje

The VMRO ("Macedonian" Revolutionary Organization- Внатрешно-македонска Револуционерна Организација), is classified among the nationalist / separatist, racist organizations, with unknown financial sources and bases in both the FYROM and Greece!

The Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization-Macedonia for the Macedonians (VMRO-MNM), is a racist/nationalist political party and terrorist group operating in "Macedonia". The name Vnatresno-Makedonska Revolucionerna Organizacija (VMRO) was first used in the late 19th century by "Macedonian" rebels opposed to Ottoman rule. The group remained active after the First World War, seeking to undo the partition of Macedonia ordered by the Treaty of Versailles. After being successfully suppressed by the USSR during the Cold War, "Macedonian" nationalism has experienced a resurgence in the years since the Iron Curtain fell, as the Balkans has again become a hotspot of ethnic tension.
In "Macedonia" today, the VMRO name is attached to many different political parties, including the ruling party, the Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE), and the leading mainstream opposition party, the VMRO-VMRO. However, the name is also used by the extremist VMRO-MNM, which believes that a greater Macedonia should be established, incorporating ethnic Macedonians from Greece, Bulgaria, and elsewhere.
In a manifesto written by group leader, Ljupco Mircevski-Trepet, the VMRO-MNM listed a plethora of grievances ranging from US and UN support for the Kosovo Liberation Army (who they consider terrorists) to the difficulties "Macedonians" have securing visas for travel elsewhere in Europe.
The most troubling tenet of the group's philosophy is its strongly anti-Albanian stance and its support for ethnic cleansing to remove Albanians from the "Republic of Macedonia". In May of 2001, the group was implicated in the planning of riots which targeted an Albanian neighborhood in the city of Bitola. The riots were apparently in response to the killing of four "Macedonian" soldiers by Albanian rebels in an area near Bitola. Windows were broken, businesses destroyed, and many people injured in the violence.
The VMRO-MNM is still active and promotes its anti-Albanian agenda whenever possible. However, the group has seemed reluctant to use violence since the 2001 riots, and no further incidents are expected.
Little is known about Ljupco Mircevski-Trepet. He was reported to be the chairman of the "Macedonian" Revolutionary Organization in 2001. At about that time, he released a public manifesto decrying unfair and abusive treatment of "Macedonians". The open letter was published on the internet under the heading "Macedonia for the Macedonians". A report issued in 2001 claimed that Mircevski-Trepet lived in Sweden. This report has not been confirmed.
The details of Mircevski-Trepet's work in the VMRO-MNM are unknown, as is his current affiliation with the group.
The organization re-emerged recently with a press release sent to many Greek and foreign websites, as well as journalists and government officials both in Europe and America. We won't refer to the press release itself, not only because it can be found on several blogs, but mainly because we are reluctant to promote Skopjan or any other nationalist propaganda.
However, we will point to a letter sent by a Goce Delcev on August 2, 2006, to Ljupco Mircevski-Trepet, titled: "Leader of the group is Ljupco Mircevski-Trepet reportedly, who lives in Sweden.
We can't possibly know whether the purpose of that letter was to inform or warn Trepet. But we do know that it was quoted from a report published by FOI (Swedish Defense Research Agency).
Page 150 of the report writes:
The MRO Todor Alexandrov is a group in the FYROM, which took its name from the most important leader of the "Macedonian" revolutionary organization" during the Balkan Wars. Todor Alexandrov was assassinated in 1924 (by a member of his cheta).
The MRO Todor Aleksandrov accuses the state of "Macedonia" for being lead by an "anti-Macedonian mafia government, composed of terrorists, bandits, and spy agents. It urges "Macedonians" to boycott shops run by Albanians and to stop talking about Albanians.
The group considers that the overriding task is to fight those who support and finance pro-albanian terrorist organizations, and called for international recognition (through the UN), of the historic name of Macedonia.

Ljupco Mircevski-Trepet, who lives in Sweden, is said to be the group's leader. The group is said to be active in almost all cities of the West "Macedonia" and claimed that it has some 1,200 armed members.
The group has been terrorizing Albanians and burned houses that belonged to Albanians.
The group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Albanian property in Monastiri (Bitola) and the murder of an Albanian businessman in Skopje.
They also claim to have attacked the financing of UCK.
The Lions
(The group appears with many aliases, such as "Macedonia 2000", "Macedonian Paramilitary 2000", "Lions of "Macedonia").
The paramilitary group has been brought in the spotlight during the six-month conflict between government forces and Albanian rebels in 2001.
The group was known for its brutality against the Albanian rebels. Interior Minister Boskovski sent regular special police forces in August 2001 when the conflict between UCK / FYROM had ended.
The group is believed to be consisted of recently released prisoners, trainee officers, military personnel from special forces, mercenaries and hooligans. The group reportedly has 2,000 members, including soldiers from the Special Forces like "The Tigers", "The Wolves" and "The Scorpions".
The VMRO and Trepet, as presented on Global Terrorism Database (START-National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism), based at the University of Maryland.
