"Sarah!" Merlin scolded. "You are late for your lesson!" He pursed his lips. "This is the third time this week. Try to be more punctual."
"Yes, sir," I replied, but I knew that I never would. Oh, well.
"It just so happens," The magician said, his tone switching from disapproval to excitement, "That I have something very special to show you today." He crossed the room and opened a case. I watched in fascination as he picked through the junk, finally producing a shining object from within the depths of the trunk.
"Now, what I have here is to be used very carefully," Merlin said, eyeing me beadily. "But I am giving it to you, for you are my most learned student." I grinned with pride. "However late you may be," he added as an afterthought.
