So, as expected I didn't get my first choice for my final work at university! I wanted to study the influence of predation by ducks and fishes at macrobenthos in an intertidal region... But someone else with better grades wanted to do that too and got the subject. So as my second choice I wanted to study the effects of MTBE (methyltertiarbuthylether) on the zebrafish. But the professor thinks it's not such a good idea 'cause the doc-student who's supposed to help me doesn't work at the university, so there's noone at uni to help me when needed. And next year he's in his last year so won't have to much time to give me the help needed. Plus if something happens with my fishes, it's over, 'cause the experiment is long so I won't have enough time anymore! So the prof. asked me if I wanted to study influence of TBT on Naegleria (ecotoxicology). It should have an effect on the formation of flagels. I could also do it on sperm cells and see if it has also an effect on the mobility of the sperm. I could also test the effect of MTBE on those sperm cells, 'cause MTBE is in the gass for your car and if you find it has a bad influence on sperm cells it would be very interested. Now at our university we've got all the best machinery and microscopes that I can put on tv's and computers to make 3D images and stuff like that... The experiments are new, so it gives me lots of chances on publications. Plus there's a lot of interest for this project from undustrial companies. So it is probably good for my curriculum. I have to tell the prof if I want to do it or not. If not, I've got to look for another subject! Please help me, what should I do? Can somebody tell me if it's true what he said about publications and curricula???? It looks interesting to me, but I can't decide what to do!

Thanks,
Marit

Hey Marit!

Well, I really don't have any knowledge about the fields of study you are talking about! LOL, basically what I'm saying is I have no clue what the subjects mean and the options. But- it sounds like the last one (MTBE) is the best one to take. You wrote the most positive things about that one, and it sounds very good. I would think about if that's what you really love to do, and if you would like doing that in the future. Do you really want to take that, or are you just "well, I guess" because it was suggested? Think about that, and then make a decision. You should also explore new subjects, and see if those interest you. Don't worry, Marit, you'll find one that will be right for you. Good luck! Lol, I hope this helped, atleast some! ;)
Good luck again Marit!
~Stephanie~
