For our clubs' purposes PVC cores work just fine. Fiberglass rods cost more but some say they are sturdier, but we've been using our PVC boffers for about 5 months now and they are holding up just fine. We can get a 1/2" 10 ft. piece of PVC pipe for about 85 cents at the Home Depot so you can see why we choose PVC over fiberglass.
