Fiona sang to herself as she and Superlative trotted down the country lane in the morning sunlight. They turned off at a bridle path, a long green track. Fiona clicked him into canter, they bounded down the lane. At the bottom was a gate. You could get off and open it, but Fiona simply gathered up her mount and asked him to jump it. They soared over the 4 foot gate with ease. "Good lad" she said, patting his chestnut neck, which was beginning to sweat. She steadied him back to trot and found herself back onto the country lane. A mile or so on she turned left again into the woods, occasionally ducking the overhanging branches. The horse was tiring so she asked him for walk. The wooded track brought them out into Green Fern Village. They walked the last mile home, hooves echoing on the tarmac.
