Subject: Training for the show

Fiona rides into a the srena on Poetry in motion, her irish sports horse mare. Poetry had been entered in the riding horse class and Fiona wanted to practice the show she would do. Fiona asked for a collected walk, The grey mare arched her long neck and rounded her body, shortening the strides of the walk. Poetry was better at collection than extension so Fiona thought this would be a good thing to do. After a few circles she asked for trot, just a working trot. Poetry's smooth gait glided them over the sand. Fiona did a 4 loop serpentine, which showed how flexible Poetry was. This changed the rein so she did a 20m circle in working trot in the new direction. Just as they were about to turn for the long side Fiona turned poetry's head towards the middle, her quarters still on the edge and moves her forwards and sideways at the same time, her outside legs crossing over her inside legs. Half pass! That would also impress the judges. She practiced it on both reins the asked for canter in the corner, collected canter, it was even slower than a trot it was so collected. Poetry bounced on the spot almost! To finish she brought her back down to walk and tried some demi pirouettes, turning the mare at walk on her haunches. Fiona thought they would do pretty well in the riding class...
