Unfortunately, it requires leaving your computer on.

There's this great little program called "iSnipeit" which is, essentially, your own personal sniper. You don't need to get up early to watch an auction, you just set your max price and bam! Thirty or Twenty or Ten seconds before the auction's end, your little personal sniper places the bid for you, and ebay's proxy bidding takes care of the rest!

You can still be outbid, but only if the guy before you has a higher maximum bid than you do.
