Subject: skyluv love hina figures - naru + motoko review

MOTOKO'S CLOTHES COME OFF!
SO DOES NARU'S TOWEL!

okay, that's over with. on to the review.

skyluv project 01 - naru narusegawa

no real surprises here, except the removable towel. she's fully posable: exactly as advertised, plus harley quinn style hip joints. IE, a cross between a t-crotch and a v-crotch.

nifty hot springs display base, with the little turtle on a clear rod, like su from the first waterline set. and removable rubber towel. to get the towel off, you have to pop her torso apart. she is naked underneath it, but there's no naughty bits. nothing worse than barbie, just better sculpted. but she has some serious joint seams going on, she really looks better in the towel.

as you can see from the pic, she's a perfect fit for compact doll clothes. I'm going to snag one with a blue kimono, so that once I get Mutsumi she can wear that, rather than the fugly outfit she comes with. then I'll have mutsumi and naru in festival outfits.

skyluv project 02 - motoko aoyama

she can wear naru's towel if you like. I have her doing that because her samurai togs are bulky and heavy and almost completely restrict her articulation. and she can't be running about in her undies. besides, naru's not using it.

motoko's not as posable as naru, but still good. ball neck, cut shoulder, the same angled torso swivel as naru(again, pop apart to add/remove towel), a standard t-crotch, hinged knees, swivel at the base of her socks, and hinged toe/sandals.

the biggest surprise, aside from the removable clothes, is that her sword DOES fit into it's sheath: they just also gave you one that's a solid peice of plastic. not the sword in sheath/sword/sheath like I'd assumed from the pictures.

I want to get her some new clothes, but I'm not sure what would be good. a cloth version of her samurai outfit would be great, but I'm not good enough to make on that size that'd work well. I haven't seen the show yet, no idea what clothing would work. there is a compact doll in a french maid outfit, and I've seen a bunch of fanart of her in said clothes: maybe that'd be worth getting.
the problem is that her arms hug pretty close to her chest, and angle forwards and inwards, so it's either really loose sleeves or nothing. she doesn't look so bad with her samurai top off; maybe I should just make her some big raver pants?

speaking of the compact dolls, the neck connection needs to be retooled, but if you want a seamless body for the hina girls, these are the right size. almost exactly as tall as Naru. and there's a bunch of them in various outfits.

fully compatible headwise with the waterline sets. I've already swapped Motoko's long flowing hair for the ponytail.

I need to order shinobu and kitsune now, but I can't afford them this paycheck. hope HLJ has some stock left in two weeks... argh, I don't wanna wait that long! stupid ebay.

only two problems with them: several of the pegs on motoko's clothes are broken now, but not the big ones so it's OK, just annoying.
and her left knee twisted apart on me the second time I moved it. the rivet just split in half. I had to pry the rivet halves out of her leg parts, then try to replace it. Luckily, I had a screw that was exactly the right size: screwed it into the holes, cut off the ends, good as new, if not better. I can live with the visible metal bits.

also picked up d:real beelzumon, he rocks.
