Subject: The grandfather of Wrestling Magazines passes away

Legendary Wrestling Journalist Stanley Weston passed away Thursday. And while None of you may know this name, he is the Name in Wrestling (and Boxing) Magazines.

Weston first got into the buisness way back in the early 50's with his "Boxing and Wrestling" magazine. He eventually founded G.C. London Publishing and with that company brought us over 30 different magazines like Ben Strong Wrestling (60's), Inside Wrestling (1966), Pro Wrestling Illustrated (1979), Sport Reveiw Wrestling, Wrestle America, The Wrestling Annual, The Wrestler, The original WCW Magazine, And the PWI Almanac. Along with Boxing Magazines KO, Boxing Illustrated, and the end all be all, Ring Magazine.

Weston's magazines made names of such reporters such as Eddie Ellner, Dan Shocett, and Bill Apter who's name woiuld be tagged with these magazines. The Weston Mags had great anual events such as the Year End Awards, The pwi 500, The computerized Tournament, and the look into independant federations.

Unfortunatly, with the advent of the Internet, The wrestling Magazine business took a major hit. Especially when it became the in vouge thing for these websites to litterally bite the hand that fed them from when those guys were kids untill today. Sure, those mags Rarely ever broke Kayfabe, but sure as hell they did less bitching and moaning then any website ever would. In the last few years several magazines closed shop. Apter left the company and formed his own mag, which was a flop. But the constant through all the years was the Weston Magazines. Yeah, it got harder and harder to find them, but they were there.

So, as I hold my 2002 PWI almanac in my hand as I type this. I'd like to say that the Wrestling World has lost one of it's true innovators.
