Now that you mentioned it, I remember that. Disappointing...some villains should remain unmasked.

In the mid 80's we had this huge syndrome of youths wanting to be American...some of that's still around, but a large proportion's been converted to wanting to be Japanese now. Anyway, GI Joe was pretty well-received, Real American and everything that comes with it...the US has had a pretty good image here (Well, until you grow up and meet a coupla idjits here and there). But what i liked best about Gi Joe wasn't the Joes or their military characteristics, but all the weird zany stuff. Cobra, the Vipers (Nearly have all of them...Astro was bloody hard to find), The Dreadlocks(?), Serpentor, and of course, Ninjas! I've got quite a few incarnations of Snake eyes and Stormshadow, plus I even got Jinx. Should have gotten Scarlett....ah well. I watched the show for Cobra commander more than anything else. I think most pple here would have had a similar take on Joe, from what I remnember of my neighbours' collections.
