Finally saw Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (on DVD). Definately worth seeing for the visuals alone. But even so, they're a few things about the animation that bug me. You'll see Aki do something really life-like, like the way the tilts her head when talking to someone. But at some other points in the movie, it seems like her facial expressions never change. It's a bit of a mixed bag in that way, but overall, an incredible movie to look at. Also, I don't think it's quite at the photo realism point, which is in part why I liked it. They're close... but not quite there.

Also on the photo realistic CGI topic, I don't quite understand the need to get photo realism. If you want a movie to look real wouldn't it be much easier to hire a bunch of actors and film the old fashioned way? Part of what makes animation fun is the fact that it's NOT real.

Also saw the Tomb Raider DVD. NOw I know many blasted this movie when it came out (a few of you did, I think). But, I went into it expecting a goofy, over the top action movie and that's exactly what I got. On that level, I pretty thoroughly enjoyed it. ANd the bouncy bouncy factor don't hurt none.

Amored Core 2: Another Age for the PS2. I learned something when I was a wee lad: giant robots whompin' on each other is cool. This game is a blast. After over a week of play, I've finally gotten my mech grade up from "below average" to "Fair". I can tell this isn't the kind of game you blow through in a couple of weeks which is a welcome change of pace. The ability to customize your robot is probably the coolest part of this game. The controls are a bit weird at first but after a day or two I was pretty much used to it. I know they're are other games in this series but this is the first one I've played.

Guess that's about it.
