I think Behan's days of playing the 2 passed when he grew those 4 inches. The scouting services have him as a 3 or a 4. Given the size of the Patriot League, I imagine he will see a fair time as a 4 but hopefully one who can step out and make a shot.

You point out that Griffin will be taking a lot of outside shots, especially when Kevin is gone but I hear that Vegotsky also likes to shoot from long range without much conscience.

BTW, I had hoped that with the success of last season BU might land one player who is a cut above even the better Patriot League players. Maybe there will be a good player or two out there who will give BU another look upon failing to get an offer from a legitimate major. At this stage, we might be able to compete with some bigger Mid-Majors for this sort of "leftover". I certainly wouldn't mind finding one more legitimate big man.

Word is the coaching staff is going gaga over Lithincum.

I agree with your assessment of Vegotsky and Griffin. With Griffin, Bucknell will have a pure scorer for the next 3 years. Who plays the point after Badmus departs?

Oh, who cares. let's just enjoy this season and hope we continue to build. Like the film, if you build it (the program that is), they will come!!!

>>>Who plays the point after Badmus departs?<<<

I hope it would be Castleberry, who seems to have well regarded at Spalding. If he doesn't do well as a backup this winter, then that would become a major recruting priority.

Is this based on the info in Hoop Time the other day or from other sources? It would be great if he turns out to be very good. Based on the so-so scouting reports on him last year, even as a 5th year player, I thought he might be just an average Patriot League big man.

recruiting this year:

with two forwards committed the key needs are addressed. i would expect any third signee to be another forward or SG/swing player. would also expect that we would be limiting offers to only the highest potential players left on the list.

recruiting next year:

key needs will be a center and point guard. agree Castleberry is next in line, but we will need another true point. McNaughton and Badmus will have graduated by the time next years recruiting class is at Bucknell.

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if Flannery ultimately can have 13 scholarship players (as allowed by NCAA rules) or is there some internal limit? Next year, by my count, there will be 10 if no-one else is signed: mcnaughton, clark, brown, griffin, mastropaolo, linthicum, vegotsky, castleberry, evans, and behan. (This assumes badmus is still not on an athletic scholarship and that morrison is not.)

careful, don't take my recruiting commentary to be anything more than my opinion based on a review of the current roster.

as for scholarship limits, the original Bucknell plan permits three per year for basketball. i don't know if they allow unused ones to be carries over and used in a later year or if the policy will be modified in connection with the total strategic planning process.

Badmus did not count against the self imposed limit of three per year since he did not receive a merit based aid package, however, i am confident he counts against the NCAA limit since he does receive need based aid. if not, a lot of schools would be playing games with the system.
