Bucknell up, 34-14 at the half. Cross' KHam looks completely lost.

And for the Bison, where do you start? Other than some unnecessary fouls, they seem to be hitting on all cylinders on both ends of the court. I'd like to see Bettencourt taking & hitting more shots but he single-handedly orchestrated McNaughton's jumper at the buzzer -- that was devastating.

And what can I say about Lee & Badmus? Say what you will about McN in the front court, it's these 2 guys who are dominating HC.

Go Bison.

Congratulations to the Bison in a convincing win over my alma mater.

Though KHam did not play well in the first half offensively, I would think you agreed he came on strong in the 2nd half as McNaughton sort of disappeared offensively.

Lee was your main man yesterday with almost as many points as McNaughton but a heck of a lot more rebounds, assists and steals.

Expect a closer game, and dare I say a possible HC win, when you come to the Hart in February.

1970, I think if the 2nd half had continued along the same way as the first half it would have been an emphatic statement by the Bison that you cannot compete with us. However, not surprisingly, that did not happen and I think the return match at Hart will definitely still need to be played before a winner is declared.

Thanks for the congrats. No doubt, Hart in Feb. will be a fun game to watch. By no means do I consider this game a gimme but I do expect another solid win.

Though KHam came on in the 2nd half, what I saw was not a Cross team solving the Bison defense; rather, what I saw was a defensive scheme designed to conserve Bison energy and wear down the Crusaders. This, of course, is exactly what happened. This game was never in doubt and Cross' shallow bench is the reason why.

As your frosh develop, I expect your bench will improve; however, a weak post presence (McNaughton didn't score much because he wasn't part of the 2nd half scheme) and no dominant advantage at point or forward presents, I believe, an unlikely upset scenario.

But that's why we play the game. Home advantage at the Hart is no small consideration.

Go Bison!

LOL. Thanks for your generosity of spirit, Bison fans! Coach Willard and the team, I'm sure, are most appreciative that you let up on the Saders by conserving your energy and not using McNaughton much in the 2nd half. Can we count on you to start the game at the Hart with your second-stringers too?

If the Crusaders can't figure out a way to get real production from the bench, you'll be seeing much more of our second-stringers in February & March.

The game was over with 10 min. to go. A fantastic HC (& KHam) push cut the lead to 8. But your team was exhausted and neutralized (4 fouls all around). By keeping the ball moving around the horn (instead of the inside-out game McNaughton provides) kept HC running and in a position to foul.

To rest our starters and still beat our #1 PL competition by double-digits seems a pretty good strategy.

Go Bison!

Actually, McNaughton was not even on the floor that much in the 2nd half. Bucknell has to have one of the most stifling D's in basketball right now, any level. The only place they get in trouble is against teams whose guards are substantially better....IE Nova, Duke. Those teams have guys athletic enough to break the pressure. In Nova's guess, their guards are giants.

I was very surprised HC did not press more.

>>>I was very surprised HC did not press more.<<<

I was also, but there are a few possible reasons for this:

1. HC has no real subs at the 1,2, or 3, which makes Thomas, Simmons, and Hamilton have to play virtually 40 minutes. Not only does the lack of rest make it hard to press, it also creates issues with foul trouble.

2. They did go to the full court trap once midway through the second half but the Bison went through it easily. Then Willard tried a 1-3-1 zone, trying to trap off of it, but it likewise produced no turnovers. I think, Duke not withstanding, that the Bison, with another year of experience, are a lot better at dealing with the zone press than they were last year. Thankfully no-one else on their schedule has the athletes that Duke has.

3. It is possible that Willard does not want to let the Bison get familiar with the press before the likely PL championship game, when he will obviously pull out all the stops. Maybe if they had been closer in the last three minutes of this one, they might have gone to the all-out press. In this case, however, not only was the margin double digit but also all of their "big 3" had four fouls.

While I think #1 was the primary reason, I think #3 is an interesting point.

HC doesn't have the manpower presently to effect a full-court press for any substantial period; however, I am far from satisfied at the Bison's ability to break it. HC has a knack for disguising their traps really well. Later this season, when it's one-and-done, we're sure to see much more of it.

Go Bison!
