Having earned two ivy league degrees (Yale, A.B., Harvard, J.D.), it is without reservation that I can firmly attest to the inadequacy of our nation's "top" two universities.
Stymied by pomposity and inflated egos, unduly influenced by legacy monies and ancillary finances which unjustly impinge on, what should be, informed, detached and impartial decisions regarding admissions and, most importantly, accepting lesser deserving applicants for reasons including, but not limited to the foregoing, raises the specter for the debate which has been the impetus for my posting of this message.
For illustrative purposes only, a fellow alumnus at Harvard Law School, had attended undergrad at Lehigh University. Many of my classmates had done their undergrad at ivy league schools. The discussion was often broached about how the "non-ivy" students, presently at the law school, would somehow have a lackluster performance merely because they hadn't attended an ivy league undergrad.
I am happy to say that this alumnus graduated magna cum laude and is now a well-respected, highly sought after attorney in New York. Moreover, he and I remain friends and often joke about this story.
I have recently debated whether to go back and get an L.L.M., and have started to research schools. Based on the foregoing, it is clear that I am autmoatically eliminating 8 schools.
