I'm very proud of Bucknell tonight. They lost to a better team, period. They had their runs, overcame a huge deficit to pull within 3.....

Good job Bucknell!

as i posted a few days ago, i do not think anybody involved with bison hoops would not have pleased to know on nov 1st that the bison would be 5-1 at the semester break. i truly believe that this game will do more for this teams growth than any of the 5 wins. they have every reason to feel proud of themselves.

I was at the game and echo both Dan ansd unwired. The Campus should be extremely proud as well creating the atmosphere in Sojka last night. A great College Basketball Atmosphere not seen in my opinion since the the Late 80's ECC Championship teams in Davis Gym. Keep it up!!

I was at the game as well and I too came away with a strong sense of pride. That atmosphere in Sojka was something special. NOBODY left the game early, and EVERYBODY gave our team a standing O at the end.

That was special.

As for the game itself, I now know we deserved to be in that game. A few things go differently, and we win that game. Coming back from 19 down to cut it to three against a team like Villanova is a feat unto itself.

Some takeaways that I hope we can learn from:

1) We have to be able to break the press a little easier than we did. It seemed like their pressure, while it didnt cause all that many turnovers, it threw our offense out of sync. By the time our offense got completely set up a big chunk of our precious shot clock was gone. You can bet that we will be seeing that again, patricularly in tournament time, and we need to be prepared better for that.

2)We came out with the jitters and didnt get the tone of the game set up in our favor. That very first possesion where Lee turned it over and gave them an easy two is just such a killer. Missed free throws were possible also due to jitters. The pressure of that first big home game is hopefully now gone. Enough said.

3) McNaugton is McNasty. While he had a career night, Villanova was basically willing to play him one on one because they knew they could shut down everyone else. They weren't going to double him and let him create open looks for our shooters. Basically, we need to be able to create open looks for our shooters, not just when McNaughton is doubled.

All in all, it was definately a loss we can build on. I know everyone wanted that one bad, but everyone will get over not be undefeated and move forward.

Sorry for the rambling, but it's probably just my own personal way of mourning the loss. I'm now over it and looking forward to what to come.

You can't say enough about the atmosphere last night. All we needed was to turn the heat up about 20 degrees and you would have sworn the game was back in Davis. One of the Philly papers described the noise as the players couldn't even hear themselves dribble.

One thing that also struck me last night was how that game highlighted the tradition and family of Bucknell Basketball - especially with Coach Woollum and Jay Wright back in Lewisburg (I loved Charlie's "there's a lot of banners we put up there" quote in Hooptime). This is a team that has won a lot of games over the past 30 years in Lewisburg - and has had only 2 coaches during that span - which speaks volumes for the consistency of Bison Basketball over the past three decades.

Here's hoping the team does well on their finals, gets some well deserved rest - and hits the court vs. Cornell next week with a vengance!

nothing new to add, but wanted to acknowledge the fantastic game atmosphere. it was a great event for Bucknell. i hope the students realize that while #4 Villanova was a one time thing, they can have a great time at all the PL games by replicating even 80% of what we saw Tuesday. i didn't think i would see the old Davis Gym energy replicated in Sojka, but it was actually outdone.

i hope (and actually do believe) the administration also saw and appreciated what that game did in adding to the Bucknell experience of both the students and alums who returned. while the set of circumstances that resulted in the #4 team visiting may not be replicated, the program has earned and deserves the full support of the administration.
