have you seen any of our frosh hoops players playing in the pre official practice pick-up games? if so, any observations on their readiness to contribute early?

Ken:

I've seen some pick up games. I think all four look good. With the strong returning cast, obviously tough for the first year guys to earn time, but, having said that, Mastropaolo is an already skilled big man with big man moves who runs the floor well; Griffin is a scorer who needs to get a bit stronger; Rob Thomas impresses, can fill it up and can leap; Morrison is a skilled strong forward who can shoot well. Some of these guys may take some minutes from Clark. Tarik Vaier-McClymont looks like a rebounding machine and more. McNaughton, Bett, Brown and Abe continue to develop. I like what I see, but, remember the difficult OOC schedule.

thanks for the report. sounds promising. i thought Clark might be the candidate for significant improvement from last year, but sounds like Tarik may be the man. one area i worry about is our strength on the boards, if he can help shore that up it is a big plus. ballhandling was another big concern, while Griffin is a scorer, i hoped he could help us there as well.

the schedule is both exciting and a bit of a concern. this team is more experienced, but still young. last year they did not get down after tough losses. need to be able to maintain that mental toughness this year when expectations are higher.

with 4 jrs, sophs and frosh on the squad and 1 commitment, are we done with recruiting or can we still sign another player this year?

apologies if this sounded like an assignment. given 13 on the roster, my understanding is that the only way additional scholarships could be offered is if someone is paying 100% of their cost. while we have only a limited number of merit schollarship players, i believe anyone who receives financial aid counts towards the limit. since i do not know the specific financial situation of the pre-merit class (nor should we generally have such knowledge of individuals) i don't know how i would possibly look into this.

anyway, as always, i appreciate the information you share.

I have explored the recruiting seen a little. Seems there is a California big man, 6'10", very light who Bucknell is in the mix with along with Mid Major programs like Santa Clara. I think, and this is wrong, his name is something Agulera.....but this is worng. Outside of that, nothing to report.

I think Gents the key to a successful season for us is McNaughton. We have guards and swingmen as talented as any team in the League.....AND THEY"RE BABIES! However there is no dominant center in this League.

Honestly, I think the League title is ours to lose and I also think we are poised, considering how many OOC opportunities we have this year, to beat someone we shouldn't.....we may get beat badly in some games but someone will get a real scare....ala Michigan State.
