The merit aid issue will be addressed with a specific policy decision that will likely stand for a meaningfull period of time i.e if they vote against, they will not revisit for at least five years unless a league issue forces their hand.

I remain reasonably optimistic that merit aid will be adopted in some form, but it may be limited e.g. Lehigh approach, or contingent on fund raising.

I would not panic if we do not hear anything this month despite reports on these boards that the vote would be in April. The school has indicated earlier that the decision is expected sometime this summer.

Bucknell's Board of Trustees authorized the university to proceed with developing a plan for a merit aid program at its April 27 meeting on campus. The board approved merit-based aid in principle, but wants to be assured that a feasible financing plan exists and that merit aid will not adversely affect the current socioeconomic mix before giving its final approval. If the plan is approved, Bucknell may begin awarding merit-based financial aid in the 2003-04 academic year.

if this is true you guys are in like Flynn. Reasonable financing plans blah blah blah aside, you guys are virtually assured scholarships. I would assume this is basketball only, considering school size, endowment size, title IX, similar outlook to HC in regards to scholarships. Anyway, this is good for the league and Bucknell will have an advantage that HC had four years ago, bringing kids in who will play almost right away...a big selling point these days.
