Let's not read too much into this. Santa Clara is a good team and we had to travel cross-country to play on their home court. The effects of playing back to back nights after a long flight probably made the Bison a little sluggish. Let's not forget that this Santa Clara team knocked off the national champions last year. When the schedule came out, I looked at this game as a probable loss. Granted I also thought Cuse and Niagara would be probable losses too.
The Bison will be fine. Even great teams lose some "bad" games. I don't think their is a Bucknell fan out there who would have been disappointed coming into the season if they were told that the Bison would be 9-2 heading down to Duke.
Hopefully some positives will be taken from this loss. It may serve as a little bit of a reality check and will remind the Bison that they can be beaten on any given night by any team. Hopefully it will keep them more focused coming into games against lesser opponents as league play starts. Also, it will make them come out with a chip on their shoulder at Duke. If the Bison pull off that shocker, nobody will ever remember this game! That being said, it looks like the Bison will enter league play on a 2 game losing streak. However, they will hopefully follow that up by running the table at least through Bracket Buster Saturday when they will likely have to travel to a place like Nevada.
While losing at Santa Clara hurts and may hurt the Bison come tourney time, it should in no way take away from the team's accomplishments and should not cause panic. If the Bison lose no more than 3 more games the rest of the regular season and can at least give the Dukies a scare, then I think they can still get an at-large bid.
