Thanks Stef! I have been to your site before but I'll be sure to check it out again. I am hoping that I can find a couple (if not more) breeders to help me out a little- In the long run I am *hoping* (if it's legal- have to check that out) to preform my own spay and neuters- of course this is a long while down the road. I know there are breeders that do this and I was thinking that maybe I could find one that would be willing to teach me and observe me the first few times I do a surgery. This will save me money and allow me to care better for the permanent sick buns and possibly take in more buns. Not to mention better quality food, hay, toys, outside runs etc. I've also heard a lot of talk about breeders providing their own medical care to their buns- which I know I could learn to but I am going to need a very patient and willing person to help me out. Who's better than a breeder that does it themselves?!?! It's unlikely that a vet would provide such information. Although I've heard of vets drastically cutting prices, any money saved and spent to better the lives of the rescues is well worth the time. I was also thinking that maybe I could find a breeder to pay to come over to my rescue while I am on vactions and what not and care for my rabbits. But if they are worried about my intentions, it will be more difficult. I just don't want them to think that I am going to turn them in or something unless they were obviously abusing animals, I would never turn them in for just breeding. This one website I went to said that her neighbor turned her in because of the "smell" the rabbits were producing. So I don't know what all that is about but on lots of sites it says to be "weary of rescues" which I can understand why breeders feel that way. *sigh* I too feel that breeders and rescues need to work together. I guess that perhaps not all breeders feel that way- as Stef said "it's too bad" but these websites really made me think.
