I was petting and holding my two buns the first day they came home! They are both very healthy and happy bunnies. Perhaps your bunny was sick when you bought her/him? I am sure it could happen but I've never heard of a rabbit dying like that. It all depends on the rabbit- some rabbits will get stressed if you don't hold them and others will get stressed if you do. If your bunny is eager to be held- I say GO FOR IT!
