Subject: Getting the A320 FPDA Panel to work in FS2002

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have been involved with PSS (Phoenix Simulations)in giving advice from an A320 pilot's point of view regarding panel and gauge functioning in their newly released A320 simulator. I was tinkering about with the FPDA A320 panel because until recently it was the only panel that (in my view) remotely came anywhere near to the real A320 panel and was like most of you quite disapointed when every time it loaded it caused an FS2002 system crash. At last I've found a way to get that panel to avoid the system crash and to appear in FS2002. I do advise that even so, the panel functions that are an exclusive part of the gauges to that panel still don't work but must of the important ones like flaps, gear and autopilot functions etc. that are a function of keyboard presses will work. I find that the gauges will work for a normal flight meaning that the ECAM panels change when they should and so on. You may still find the limitation of not being able to get the full panel functions to work such as pressing the ECAM control panel buttons to bring up the respective ECAM lower system displays a bit off, but at least you get the panel to work and display.

First make sure you have an aircraft with the FDPA A320 panel that fully works as per the advert in FS2000 then copy that aircraft in its entire over to the aircraft folder in your FS2002 folder. Now go into the aircraft.cfg file and you will have to some editing to make this aircraft appear in the FS2002. I recommend to avoid any complications you simply copy the appropriate lines in the default B737-400 aircraft.cfg file across. The lines you will need to copy are from the first paragraph under [fltsim.0] and start from atc_airline=American Pacific. They are all those lines through to the end of that paragraph including the blurb that describes the aircraft.

Copy those lines into the aircraft.cfg file of your moved aircraft ensuring they go into the correct part under [fltsim.0] in the first paragraph after the last line in that paragraph. Please ensure you do this correctly as there is no room for error here allowing a line space at the end before the next paragraph [fltsim.1] starts.

Now start FS2002 and the most important thing now is to start it using a default aircraft - any one so I chose the B747. Allow it to load fully and stabilize. You should now be looking at the B747 panel (if you chose that aircraft). Press S on your keypad until you get to the outside aircraft view (there are two, first is from the twr, the second is the spot view - its this one you want). ENSURING that you are looking at this view, go to the select aircraft option and if you did the copying as I decribed above, select Boeing from the maufacturer box, 737--400 from the aircraft model box and then from the variation box you should see two options for the American Pacific airways. One will be the FS2002 default and the other the aircraft that you moved across. Select this aircraft which will now load back to the spot view screen and now .... wait for it! press keypad S and if you've done it correctly you should now be looking at the FPDA A320 panel in FS2002!

Do hope that most will get the hang of it - I am afraid I am not able to give any more information about it as I am severely time limited.

Regards
PP
