~We head backstage where SD! backstage correspondent Josh Matthews stands by.~ “We’re just moments away from the finals of the 2005 King of the Ring, and I’m standing by with the two finalists, former four time Undisputed Tag Team Champions and partners, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin!”

~The crowd cheers loudly as the camera pans out to show both men standing by, on either side of Josh.~

Matthews: “I know that this must be an exciting, but emotional time for the two of you as you prepare to compete one on one for the King’s crown.”

Haas: “For sure it is, but it’s what we’re all here for, and hell, it’s even what some of us left for.”

~Benjamin pipes up, with a brow raised.~ “So what’s that supposed to mean?”

Haas: “It means what it means. I’m not the one who left everything to go to Raw for a shot to be King.”

Benjamin: “But you WERE the one who was ready to put everything on hold while you tried to be King, and expected me to sit back and wait for you.”

Haas: “Don’t even…”

Benjamin: “Why the hell not? Let’s be real, Charlie, you wanted to have your cake and eat it too.”

~Haas rolls his eyes.~ “Oh give me a break.”

Benjamin: “It’s the truth. You wanted to be the King of the Ring, and have both me and Nat wait in the shadows as your back-up. Face the facts, Charlie, you never wanted me as a tag partner in the first place, I was just there and I was convenient. I wasn’t Russ, so the hell with me, right?”

Haas: “You’re full of shit! That’s ridiculous!”

Benjamin: “The truth hurts, don’t it? And THAT’S the truth. If it were the Haas Brothers and not The World’s Greatest Tag Team, you NEVER would have considered breaking off on your own for a shot in this tournament. Well guess what, Charles, we WERE the World’s Greatest Tag Team, and better than the Haas Brothers ever could have been.”

~Haas steps right into his face.~ “You watch your mouth you son of a bi—“

Benjamin: “I’m just speaking the truth, brother. This is what YOU wanted, I just went to Raw as a back-up. I wasn’t about to wait for you to come back King, or with your tail between your legs. I’ve been under Russ’ shadow long enough. God bless his soul, I love Russ, but I’m Shelton Benjamin, and there AIN’T no stoppin’ me now.”

Haas: “I guess we’ll just have to see about that, now won’t we?”

~The two then stare one another down for a few moments before Haas walks off, heading to the ring!~

There’s a mixed reaction this time as Haas walks out, heading straight to the ring, all business this time around. Once in the ring, he goes back into the ropes, testing their torque and stretches out as the mixed announce team of JR and Jax talk about past KOTR winners and where their careers went from there.

AIN’T NO STOPPIN’ ME NOOOOOOW!

Shelton Benjamin then comes out to a pop from the crowd, making his way down to the ring and leaps onto the apron before entering, where he is immediately mugged by Haas!

Charlie hammers away on him and pulls him away from the ropes with a German suplex, crunching him into the mat! Charlie then holds him down for a two count before pulling him to his feet, shoving him into a corner and levels him with repeated shoulder blocks. He then pulls him out and leans him against the ropes, firing him across and drills him with a running knee to the gut on the return and drops down for a cover, getting another two-count.

Benjamin now fights back, taking Charlie over with a fireman’s carry and a boot to the back! Haas tenses up and goes to his feet, where Shelton pushes him into the ropes and whips him across. Benjamin drops down flat as Haas rushes over him. He then goes back to his feet and leapfrogs his former partner, who stops on a dime, and they both go for standing dropkicks simultaneously!

The crowd pops as both men go to their feet with their fists clenched, at a stand still! They nod and begin to circle one another as the announcers make mention that there is NO time limit in the finals. They now lock up, and Benjamin goes around with a wrist lock. Haas goes low and then around, reversing it. Benjamin quickly pulls him into a side headlock, but Haas counters with a back suplex and holds his shoulders down, but Shelton rolls over, keeping Charlie locked in! Haas now reaches forward with his legs, wrapping them around Shelton’s head and breaks his grip. A quick second later, Shelton nips right out of the head scissors as Charlie rolls back to his feet, and they’re at another stand still!

The crowd begins to chant “CHARLIE-SHELTON! CHARLIE-SHELTON!” as they circle one another, locking up once again. This time, Haas goes around with a waist lock and rushes him into the ropes and goes for a roll-up, but Shelton holds on and shoves him off. Charlie does a backwards roll and goes back to his feet, charging in with a lariat that Shelton ducks. As soon as he turns around, Shelton goes for a super kick, but Haas catches it and swings him around, grabbing him for a German, but Benjamin tucks and rolls, holding him down for a two count!

Charlie goes free and to his feet, just to run right into a clothesline by Shelton. Benjamin bounces on his toes, whipping Haas across and rushes in with a Stinger Splash, connecting dead on! Haas then stumbles out into an Exploder, but before he can be taken over, he pops his hips and takes Shelton off his feet with a Northern Lights Suplex, pinning him for a one, two, and a TWO only as Shelton kicks out! As soon as Shelton rebounds to his feet, Haas take shim over with a headlock take-over, wrenching down on it and keeps him trapped on the mat!

JR: “These two pure athletes are competing in one hell of a catch-as-catch can wrestling match!”

Jax: “Just wait, JR, when it comes right down to it, we’ll be seeing some knuckle dusters.”

Benjamin goes to his knees, shoving Haas off into the ropes. Charlie rebounds back with a shoulder block that floors his former partner. He then goes for a quick elbow drop, but Shelton rolls out of the way and goes for one of his own, missing as well. Both men make it back to their feet, and Charlie takes him over with an arm drag. He tries to apply pressure, but Benjamin does a backwards roll and goes back to his feet, reversing it. Haas taps his shoulder in pain before placing his foot on the back of Benjamin’s knee, tweaking it. He then counters the reverse so hard that Benjamin does a full flip and lands on his back! However, as Charlie leans down, Shelton shoves him to his back with his feet and then nips up, still with the arm in tact, and then leg drops the arm!

Haas’ feet kick on the mat, but Shelton keeps his arm locked in his legs. Charlie now rolls over onto his knees, grimacing in pain as his arm is twisted. He then does a forwards roll, landing with his feet on the mat and arches his back, his head resting on the mat. He then battles his way to his feet and now twists Shelton’s arm and pulls him into a flapjack, dropping him chest first across the top rope! As Shelton rebounds off, Charlie catches him with a HUGE German suplex, arching his back with a bridge and holds him down for a one, two, TWO before Shelton can kick out!

Haas shakes and slaps his shoulder, trying to loosen it up as he goes back over to Benjamin, pulling him up, but Shelton comes roaring up with a wheel kick that almost takes his head off! The crowd is split in this one as they go back to their feet, and Shelton ducks a lariat, now flap jacking Haas across the ropes! As Charlie leans on the top ropes, stunned, Shelton comes racing in, jumping SO high that after dropping a leg to the back of Charlie’s head, he ends up on the ring apron! Haas goes sailing back first to the mat in the middle of the ring, and Benjamin climbs to the top and flies off with an elbow drop, connecting dead on and covers for the one, two, TWO as it’s Haas who kicks out this time!

Benjamin grabs at his head in shock before taking a deep breath and going back to work. He pulls Charlie up and leans him against the ropes, going to fire him across, but Haas counters with a drop-toe-hold and rolls him into a Haas of Pain out of nowhere! Benjamin howls out in pain as Haas pulls back on it, just praying to be able to make him tap out and become King! Shelton scrapes and claws his way towards the ropes and then grabs the bottom one with one hand and smacks the mat in pain with the other!

Hearing the smack of the mat, Haas releases Benjamin immediately, believing to have won! He pulls at his hair and jumps up and down in victory, his eyes shooting out of his head! The ref quickly throws his arm down, pointing to the ropes and telling him that Shelton got the ropes! Haas argues, claiming that he heard Benjamin tap out, but the official informs him of what actually happened. Angered, Haas goes right back to work, catching a foot from Benjamin and swings him around, going for another German, but Shelton is too quick and he drills him with the spin kick!

JR: “My God! Even his own PARTNER can’t stop the speed of that kick!”

Haas is hit right in the head and he goes crashing back onto the mat, knocked loopy! Benjamin uses the ropes to pull himself up, slapping his chest and ready to bring this one home, waiting for him to stand! As soon as he does, Benjamin goes in for the Exploder, but Haas goes low and around with a Samoan drop attempt like he did with Hassan, but Benjamin floats over with a sunset flip, pinning his shoulders down as Haas’s legs kick wildly for the one, two, and THREE count!

“Ain’t No Stoppin’ Me” blasts over the speakers as Shelton Benjamin has become the King of the Ring! He rolls away from Haas and to his knees, clenching his fists and screams out in victory!

Haas rolls onto his knees as well across the ring from Benjamin, pulling his hair in shock with his eyes bugging out of his head! He stares over at Benjamin as Shelton goes to his feet, holding the back of his head and pumps a fist into the air, falling into the ropes!

Haas goes to his feet now, kicking the bottom rope and curses under his breath, watching the replay on the monitor. Benjamin then comes over to him, turning him around, but Charlie pulls away from him and drops down to the mat, rolling out of the ring. The crowd begins to boo as Haas walks to the back, leaving Benjamin behind, leaning forward with a hand on his knee, asking Charlie to come back.

Halfway up the stage, Haas turns back to face Benjamin, standing with his hands on his hips, contemplating. He then seems to fire himself up and marches back to the ring, climbing in and stands across from Shelton, fist balled up! Shelton balls up his own fists in self defense, ready to go again if he has to, but Haas has a change of heart and extends his hand. Benjamin takes it, and Charlie pulls him into a hug before raising his arm in victory for all to see as the crowd BLOWS UP!

JR: “What a class act Charlie Haas is! What an athlete! What a tag team! What a MATCH!”

Jax: “Don’t have a heart attack now, old man. I KNOW how good they are, why do you think we’re so PISSED over on Smackdown! that Shelton Benjamin went Raw?”

JR: “Well I’m sure as hell glad he did!”

Haas then leaves the ring, applauding Benjamin on his way to the back as Shelton is crowned KING of the RING!
