i've seen the big eared boys on farms. if you see a lovely field with a family having a nice picnic in it you fill the pond in with concrete you plough the family into the field, you blow up the tree, and use the leaves to make a dress for your wife who's also your brother.

and on the subject of match fixing, nick law also approached none other than scorer lee coulson to 'manipulate' the bowling figures of a king's school bowler in a match at notts high. sources suggest he even asked him to scrub a couple of fours off railton's batting on another occasion. coulson naturally refused to take part but it is unclear who funded the illegitimate trip to harbour lights involving coulson, railton, hubbard and mapletoft. however, "we have examined coulson's off shore bank account and found a payment of a substantial amount from the king's school history dept," (Shorrock and Stewart et al. 1998).

coulson's match record for the school cricket team is also worth examining. in all competitions he played three, took four catches, (three in one match all reading: bowled curtis caught coulson) and his batting average was a healthy 2 mainly due to a 2 not out in barbados.

i ask you why was he forced to be cooped up in a scorers hut on numerous occasions when his exemplary record surely speaks for itself. nick law realised the worth that coulson brought to the team and therefore forced him into a scoring capacity even providing him with red, black, and on one occasion green, pens.

maybe coulson was involved in other dubious affairs to ruin school sport, certainly the short back pass he offered to john gilpin the highwayman in the county cup at boston should be placed under a room 10 microscope. room 10 no less being the room where the very same coulson plied his trade on the 8 by 8 black and white board. indeed his trademark opening "sicilian knights rook pawn push gambit declined declared" (sumpter and cumbers,p. 1993) was frowned upon in chess circles.

more controversial perhaps, may this author dare to question the all conquering caulfield water-polo teams. does the conspiracy run much deeper into the murky waters in which these glorious and much celebrated teams lurk. with recent episodes in the media, mainly the rio ferdinand drugs affair, it should be questionned whether it is really within the realms of a 'natural' human being to be able to swim quite as much as they did without 'assistance' of some kind. added to this the school heirarchy conveniently failed to recognise the fact that many students regularly missed valuable lessons in order to bring back some silverware from barnet, sheffield and even denmark. where is this silverware now. melted down to fund the sports hall (which would have been built with rotten foundations) presumably.

the point to be made is that many individuals were involved in different sporting arenas and corruption was at the spine of all of the teams. at the same time many individuals represented the school in a number of sports, (may i bring to your attention james fellows). it is fair to say that after examination, the corruption not only came from above but was inherent within.

pop baker prepared perfect wickets for years, only to be replaced by the caretaker who was prepared to allow a rough patch to develop outside the offstump in return for pop's house. maybe we should bear testimony to pop's words which in hindsight seem rather prophetic and they can still be heard echoing round the field, "they're all a load of cunts mate" (baker, 1997).
