Subject: nest gern consoles part 2
In reply to: tits-out 's message, "Re: which next generation console ?" on 15:56:45 05/24/05 Tue

gareth... long reply coming up i feel..

I've just read your points on the next generation consoles and understand what you're saying. We're both biased here so there will never be a right or wrong answer.

Fact is, i've not been a console fan all my life. About a year ago i had never owned a console ever, i'd only played on other peoples really casually.

It was a rainy day sat at home that i realised that a console would be a fucking good idea, and after a bit of thinking spent 100 quid on a new crystal xbox. Unsure whether i'd get full use out of it, i gave it a few weeks of casual playing.

Best. Investment. Ever.

I was blown away by the graphics and the speed of the machine on games like burnout 3, and playing against my mates it was wicked, and soon enough i heard of all this talk of 'xbox live'....?

After talking at length with simon pick when he was working where i do, he convinced me to get connected to live purely for halo2.

In theory "xbox live" is a geeky concept i'm the first to admit.

Plugging your console into the internet and playing against nerds worldwide who are usually better than you. Great.

But i can honestly say it is absolutely fucking mint. Playing team games for example on halo2 (preferably with like-minded english people in your team against the annoying loud mouthed yanks) is fucking wicked. Regular players call you into ranked or custom games, and theres a shit load of game types and maps. Fucking carnage. Equally, playing pro evoultion4 on a global league is fucking wicked.

With your headset (again, WELL GEEKY IN THEORY BUT MINT) it's possible to taunt your opponent or help your team mates along the way to avoid being nailed b ythe enemy and to discuss tactics.

With the 360 looming, and with emphasis being on xbox live, i can honestly see online gaming being standard within a year or 2, with xbox at the forefront. Don't knock it til you've tried it, live is the fucking bollocks. Granted you can't beat playing your mates in the same room as you, but you can't reall yhave 16 people playing the same game on 1 tv.
