I was 14 years old and living in the "old" Opa Locka area when Hurricane Donna hit. What an exciting adventure for a 14 year old, but not for my parents. I still have not forgotten the sounds the wind made and am so glad for the building restrictions at that time and the steel-reinforced concrete block house we lived in. The plants in the front yard were laying over one way during the passage of the eye. After the storm was over, the plants and trees were all laying in the direct opposite direction.
Yes the rain was horizontal and so were the trees.
