Subject: God's Mercy and Grace

Psalms 73:22-24 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. 23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Who can measure the mercy and grace of God? The words of Asaph are words that we all share in our hearts. Each of us know the depravity that has existed within at given times. "I was a beast before thee" Our base desires at times, whether fulfilled or fantasized, are as the beasts of the earth. At those times we know no God and turn away our loyalty to him to satisfy the desires of the flesh. Whether they be the desires of riches, fame, power or animal lust. We usually come to our senses in great remorse and then confess to God; "So foolish was I, and ignorant" and our next thoughts and earnest prayers are "God, please forgive me". God's mercy and forgiveness flood into our knowledge and we are left wondering how God could be so forgiving when we know within we deserve judgment instead of His mercy and grace.

We realize that even though we turned our backs on this loving Saviour, He never never left us. He is there continually to lift us up out of the mire we keep wanting to wallow in (2 Peter 2:22). He reaches out His hand to us to lift us up and establish our goings once more (Psalm 40:2).

Ah; now dear reader let Asaph's next words fill us with awe and glorious wonderment of the next display of God's mercy and grace. "Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory." Instead of washing His hands of us and turning away He speaks hope and peace to our hearts and gently guides us in His way. He never removes His Spirit from us but tenderly counsels us as a father would his beloved child. Even through death's door He doesn't turn loose of us but instead receives us to glory to ever be with Him and behold His glory and majesty.

That's my God. I hope He is yours?
