Subject: This Little Light of Mine

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Since God uttered those words on day one of the creation there has been light. Now considering this I am going to make a statement that you need to meditate on. Are you paying attention? Ok then; "There is not enough darkness in all the universes created to put out the light." In hillbilly vernacular: "It can't be did." I don't care if you are talking about a sun or a dim candle. Light does away with darkness but darkness can never put out the light.

What is the point of making such a statement? Simply this. Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Christian, are you paying attention? Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Think on these words of our Lord. Matthew 5:14-15 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine let it shine" How many time have we heard the children at church sing this song. It is simple but it holds a profound truth. It recognizes the teaching of Jesus that if we are His we not only have light but we are "light in the Lord".

"Put it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine". "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel,". You may well put your light under a bushel but it will still shine. There is not enough darkness under that bushel to extinguish that light. It may only illuminate the interior of the basket but it is still shining!

If the light was only your light then it might be extinguished but it is the Lord's light and it cannot be put out. You may do as Gideon and his army and hide your light in a pitcher (Judges 7:16) so that it shines not out into the world but when the pitcher is broke it reveals the brightness that is hidden within and truly was there all along. Will God have to break you (chastisement) to let the world see what is truly within you? Sometimes he does this. He did with me!

Folks, if you are truly saved you have that light within. It may not shine as brightly as some or it may shine far brighter than an other's but you do have that light.

Satan cannot blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. "Ye are the light of the world.". Ok, now that you are thinking about that light that is in you (assuming you are saved), What are you going to do with your light? "A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Where are you shining your light from? Have you got it under a basket. Are you placing it in a low valley or are you setting it up on a mountain top for all to see? Are you letting it shine brightly or have you got the wick turned down low so there is only a feeble light shining forth?

Folks, no one has to be a minister or missionary to let their light blaze high for the Lord. You don't have to be a great speaker or someone who goes about actively trying to win souls to the Lord to have a bright light. You simply have to live for the Lord being obedient to that which He impresses on your heart to do. You might say; "How can I know that the burden I have is from the Lord"? That is a fair question and deserving of an answer. The answer is quite simple really. Does it (1) line up with the Word of God, (2) honor God and (3) does it scatter the darkness of this evil world?

If the answer is yes to those three then your light is very bright indeed and God is pleased. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The light is glowing brightly in you, Hillbilly. Thank you for letting your light--which you receive from the Lord--shine upon all who read your hard thought out words. Let that light continue to shine for all your days. God bless.

I really liked this: "Light does away with darkness but darkness can never put out the light."

If you just turn up your "light" it will dispel the gloom and turn a worthless day into a bright day. Turning up the light is simply drawing closer to the Lord. You can't get any brighter than Jesus. Let His light bathe you and watch the darkness and shadows flee.
