Subject: An Open Book

Psalm 139:1-4 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

We may not fully know and understand God but it is absolutely sure that He knows us. The writer of Hebrews touched on this when he wrote Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. All things and everyone opened to Him like a book. He sees our lives and our most intimate thoughts are laid bare for Him to read. David, in writing this, said in verses 6 and 7 of the same chapter: "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it." 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

The impact on David's life of such a revelation had an astounding impact on His life. He realized that nothing he did or thought was hidden to God. He said if I ascend into heaven or make my bed in Hell thou art there. Just as David's life and thoughts were on full display to God so it is with us. God knows us better than we know ourselves. It would do us all good to meditate on these verses and realize that we don't get away with anything when it comes to God. We can't fool Him and we can't hide anything from Him so wouldn't be the wise thing to be completely honest with God and say within ourselves as David did in verses 23 and 24: " Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

God knows the evil within us when we don't realize it ourselves. We need to ,as David ask, God to bring those things not pleasing to Him to our knowledge so we might put it away from us and be led in the way of righteousness.

The Psalms and Proverbs are two of my very favorite books in the entire Bible.

We do need to remember that God hears our inner thoughts as well as our spoken words. We should always strive not to embarrass ourselves before the Lord.

There's a beautiful hymn called "Search Me O Lord." I'm sure you've heard it. Also as I've mentioned before I love the Psalms and my favorite is Psalm 91 which I have a picture of framed and hanging next to my computer. It's white lettering on a blue background and a beautiful dove on the side.

Search Me Lord
by Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey

Chorus
Search me Lord
Search me Lord
Turn the light from heaven
On my soul
If you find anything
That shouldn't be
Take it out and straighten me
I want to be right
I want to be saved
I want to be whole
(repeat)

You know when I'm right
You know when I'm wrong
You know where I go
You know where I belong
You know what I do
You know my little secrets too
Search me, touch me, cleanse me
Through and through

Well you know all my faults
My every word and deed
You know what I want Lord
And you know just what I need
If there's something there
That I'm not aware
Well take it, move it,
Keep me in your care

Chorus

I have trouble enough understanding English anymore.

Hair's gone. Eyesight halfway gone. Ears halfway gone.

At this rate there won't be enough left of me to die. (grin)

Your body might be fading, but your spirit is still strong, and that's all that God wants, anyway. Right? 8-)

I have prayed that many times, and still do. There is much to be fixed.
