Psalm 139:1-4 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
We may not fully know and understand God but it is absolutely sure that He knows us. The writer of Hebrews touched on this when he wrote Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. All things and everyone opened to Him like a book. He sees our lives and our most intimate thoughts are laid bare for Him to read. David, in writing this, said in verses 6 and 7 of the same chapter: "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it." 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
The impact on David's life of such a revelation had an astounding impact on His life. He realized that nothing he did or thought was hidden to God. He said if I ascend into heaven or make my bed in Hell thou art there. Just as David's life and thoughts were on full display to God so it is with us. God knows us better than we know ourselves. It would do us all good to meditate on these verses and realize that we don't get away with anything when it comes to God. We can't fool Him and we can't hide anything from Him so wouldn't be the wise thing to be completely honest with God and say within ourselves as David did in verses 23 and 24: " Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
God knows the evil within us when we don't realize it ourselves. We need to ,as David ask, God to bring those things not pleasing to Him to our knowledge so we might put it away from us and be led in the way of righteousness.
