Subject: That Voice Within

1 Kings 19:11-12 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Elijah, as all of us, had preconceived ideas of how God might reveal Himself. We look for God to display Himself in awe inspiring ways. We think of Him as in lightning and thunder a powerful storm or maybe in an earthquake. This is the way that Elijah thought God would reveal Himself to him. In an earthshaking way. God does not often do what we expect of Him. He is not bound by mans perceptions but will reveal Himself as He sees fit.

I have heard that still small voice from deep within. It is at once peaceful and alarming. It is a voice to be recognized as not coming from self or any other person. When I heard the voice from within it moved me to surrender my life to Jesus and I was saved. When Elijah heard it he was moved to wrap his mantel around his head and hide himself from God in shame.

Adam heard the voice of God and hid. Samuel heard it and said "speak Lord, thy servant heareth" (1 Sam. 3:10). Samuel obeyed and had the honor of anointing David king over Israel. (1 Sam. 16:13)

Saul heard the voice of God on the road to Damascus and was obedient to it. The world was forever changed because of his obedience.

Moses heard the voice and obeyed. The result was an entire nation came out of bondage and changed the world. God worked miracles at his hand that are still wondered at today.

Many hear the voice of God and turn away. Sometimes the voice is a warning as with Israel. King Saul disobeyed the voice and payed for it with His life. Jonah ran from the voice of God and became fish food. He paid an awful price for his disobedience. There is a price to pay for refusing the voice of God.

One day there will be a great judgment and at that judgment mankind will give an account as to what they did with the voice of God when it called. Those who have been obedient to the voice of God and have come to Him for salvation will enter into the joy of the Lord (Matt. 25:21). Those who have not will be cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matt. 25;30)

Our eternity depends on what we do with the voice of God when it speaks to us to come to Him for salvation. Our service to Him depends on what we do with the voice of God that comes to us at times to move us to do something for Him.

The still small voice that was within was not audible in the normal sense nor do I believe that it necessarily was when these others heard. The voice is a welling up from within moving us to do God's bidding. Sometimes it calls us to repentance. Sometimes to service. Sometimes to praise and worship. What ever the call it behooves us to obey it. God tells us that to obey is better than sacrifice. (1 Sam. 15:22)

When we hear that voice from within we need to be as Samuel and say "speak Lord, thy servant heareth" ? Whether God speaks in a still small voice or speaks in a booming voice as He did with Paul we would do well to listen and obey.

She is much better now and prayerfully she will stay that way.
She was two days in the hospital running test but they didn't find anything to cause a blackout but we felt all along it was due to her vomiting so much that left her weak. Crohns attacks can be devastating.

I think I heard his voice once a long time ago, but all he said was my name, so I didn't really know what to do about it or why he said it. Am I crazy?

PS So happy to hear Dale is doing better after her dizzy spell and breaking her nose. That must have scared you all!

Remember Samuel didn't know what to do with the voice either until Eli told him how to respond.

It gave us all quite a scare but I thought all along it was because of her constant vomiting especially on an empty stomach. All that could also cause low blood sugar and cause passing out.

I have come close to blacking out just from standing too quickly from a bent over position.

Just one more thing for you to watch for, eh? God blessed Dale with providing her with such a good care giver as you, Dwight. Take care, sweet friend, and give Dale our love.
