Genesis 35:8-13 But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth. 9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him. 10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. 11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; 12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. 13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

The only time this Deborah is mentioned by name in the Bible is here. We were introduced to her without her name being given in Genesis 24:59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men. The word "nurse" itself in the passages means to suckle as in to nurse and infant. Verse 8 tells us she was buried "beneath Bethel". I would take that as descriptive of her burial place being under the hill where Bethel was situated. The name given to her burial site is the most descriptive of her worth to Jacob's family. "Allonbachuth" means "Oak of weeping". There must have been much weeping from all of Jacob's family as they put away from them this beloved nurse who must have been a mother figure to them all.

That Deborah is mentioned in the Bible at all is a great testimony to the worth of Deborah to Jacob and probably to God also. I would assume she was a very godly woman who gained the respect of all who knew her. We are not given her age but the fact that she was a grown woman when Isaac married Rebekah shows she was on up in years. The possibility also that she nursed Rebekah as a baby shows that she achieved a great age. Deborah carries the testimony of a woman who was loved greatly because she loved greatly.

As Jacob journeys onward in obedience to God he is again met by God. Again God reminds Jacob that he is to be known as Israel instead of Jacob. Forever more the people of God that descended from this man would be known as Israel. In addition to the changing of his name God told Jacob "I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;"

"A nation" would be Israel. A company of nations would mostly likely be the divided Kingdoms of Judah and Israel. Israel was the 10 northern tribes with Judah being the southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin. Have you ever heard the old adage; "Two is a company and three is a crowd"? Well, Israel split into a company of two nations. If there were any more nations that sprang from Jacob I don't know about them although Herbert W. and Garner Ted Armstrong (World Wide Church of God) presented England and the United States as springing from Ephraim and Benjamin. Personally I believe this would be quite a stretch.

The most important verse in this passage is verse 12: "And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land." It is a re-affirmation of the original land grant given to Abraham by promise from God. I sets in no uncertain terms the legal ownership of the land that Abraham first walked up and down in under God's guidance. It excludes any possibility of a claim from Ishmael or Esau. God chose the line for the promise to come down through as the centuries rolled onward toward the day that Israel would be able to claim the "Land of Promise" or "Promised Land". The boundaries were set from the river of Egypt on the south side. The Mediterranean sea on the West. The border with Syria (northern most part of Dan at the beginning of the Euphrates river) on the north and the Euphrates river on eastward.. The Euphrates River runs from that point south eastward until it runs into the Arabian Gulf. It is interesting that there is no other border given than the river of Egypt to the Euphrates which goes all the way down through Babylon and the area which Abraham originally came from. Bible history (Joshua 1:11-15) shows us that the Reubenites and Gadites with the half tribe of Benjamin settled on the East of the Jordan which is known as the country of Jordan today. Many believe that the whole of Israel in the Kingdom will cover all the land in that triangle from Egypt to the Euphrates beginning to it's end. Israel has never owned all of this but one day it possibly will.

Won't that tick the Arab's off!! I guess ol' Mohamed will turn over in his grave, or Hell.

It seems pretty clear to me that God made a very airtight promise and let his wishes be known without question. Why can't the tribes surrounding Israel get that straight?

surrounding Israel get that straight?

Satan is the enemy of God and must defeat God's glorious plan for Israel. He thinks if he can defeat Israel he can defeat God. The God of the surrounding enemies of Israel is Satan and they worship and follow him.

Allah is the old pagan moon god. Their god is not our God.
