A new direction but one that has been bothering me for several days...don't know why but it has been on my heart...and I'm wondering why....not something I've ever really thought about. The Bible tells us (can't remember where) that we are not to "hoard" our money but to "share" it and spread to the less fortunate in order to receive God's blessings. My question is why is it that those of us who try to do God command end with the short end of the stick and those who "hoard" their money end up with money and we don't. Don't miserunderstand me I make my choices voluntarily but I have a friend who squeezes every nickel and she has much money compared to me and I do spread it around as much as I can. I'm not complaining but would like an explanation....sigh

Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This admonition from our Lord sets the stage to determine what we really desire. While Jesus taught giving what He really taught was charity. Charity is a love that gives and expects nothing in return. The love that Jesus exhibited was pure charity. Everything he did was for us and not for Himself. Jesus had the riches of the universe. A universe that He Himself had created. (Col. 1:16) Think on this for a minute. Here is the God of glory who lacked for nothing. Owned the wealth of all He had created. Thought so little of gold that he paved the street of New Jerusalem with it (Rev. 21:21) and then did what we might think as crazy. He left it all, came to this sinful world, robed Himself in the flesh of a man, willed Himself to be born of a virgin, lived a perfect impoverished life for 33 yrs. and then went to a cruel cross to die for you and me. He gave it all and did not crave or long for any earthly wealth while here.

Jesus was questioned by a rich one ruler one time notice the exchange: Luke 18:18-24 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. 21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. 22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. 24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

Wealth can keep you from heaven. How? So often the wealthy have so much that they don't need God. They get sick they don't need to pray they can afford the best health care money can buy. They have so much they can travel, go to gala events, build fine houses with grand swimming pools, entertain many friends and in short "live the life of Riley".
They don't have time for God. They live their life and then at the last when they see they are about to die they will try to get religious. All to no avail. They will depart lost.

The writer of the 73rd Psalm was in the same boat with you and had the same misgivings. Read carefully what he had to say:

Psalm 73:1-22 A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. 2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. 3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. 5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. 6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. 7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. 8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. 9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. 10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. 11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? 12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. 13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. 14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning. 15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. 18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. 19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. 20 As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image. 21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins. 22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

Connie, don't envy this person. Share what God has given you. Never worry about having enough money. Always trust Jesus and He will supply your every need. I know. I have been there when there was very little money yet every bill was paid and on time. We were so poor financially that we qualified for food stamps and welfare but I determined to trust God. I sent my children to school with sack lunches when they qualified for free lunch. I prayed to God to meet my needs and when things looked their darkest there would come money to me to meet my needs with nothing to spare. During that time even the little that came to us we set aside a portion for the Lord. We found out we could not outgive God. During this time also my wife took sick and spent a week in the hospital. We had no insurance. I sold a gun collection I had before hard times fell on us and I sold my tractor and emplements to pay the bills. It took care of the hospital bill and I kept praying. I was self employed and things started improving. Today, while I am no where near wealthy I am rich. I have a 90 + acre farm. My home, which I and my family built with our own hands, is paid for. I owe no man for anything and I owd God for everything. God has more than fulfilled His promise that He would never leave me nor forsake me. Today, my faith is stronger than ever even with the burdens we have.

Put God to the test and you will be amazed. Never give to receive but give because it is right when there is a need. I can testify that "--My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

I received this this morning and it addresses the same thing I mentioned so I thought I'd post it here.

Confident Living

"Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun." - Psalm 37:5-6

Psalm 37 is a wonderful example of the way in which each of the psalms served as instructions for living to the people of Israel. If there is any place in life where we need divine help to understand the nature of our world, and divine help to maintain the right perspective, it is in the matter of discerning good and evil. When others around us seem to be successful even though they are doing wrong, we may be tempted to conclude that serving God is of little value.

Nothing could be further from the truth, and so David provided a powerful, fivefold strategy to follow in remaining true to God: "Trust in the Lord," "Delight yourself in the Lord," "Commit your way to the Lord," "Be still before the Lord," and "Refrain from anger." But even as we seek to obey God, we still must admit that at times we are puzzled by the apparent triumph of evil people. The writers of Scripture often asked God, "Why do the wicked seem to prosper in their plots?" Who among us has not also asked this same question?

Certainly we do not understand all the mysteries of God's ways. People have the freedom to exercise their will, and this freedom sometimes entails wrong, and even evil, choices. God can still use these things to accomplish His will, and to serve as an unforgettable lesson of the consequences of failing to follow and obey Him.

Although we may not find all of the answers we seek, the answer given in Psalm 37 is the one that ultimately must suffice and comfort us. David described the blessing of the person who chooses to remain trustful and still before God, even when pursuing wrong seems to pay better dividends. But this is not so, because from God's perspective the triumph of evil is extremely short-lived. Wicked people and their plans will quickly pass away, while those who trust God will stand.

So the writer's conclusion is a solid one. The wisest thing we can do is take refuge in God and wait for His deliverance. And for those of us in The Fellowship who are committed to stand with and bless Israel, I point out the promise of verses 32-34, which states that the land God promised to Abraham and his descendants by an eternal covenant will be theirs both now and into the kingdom of Messiah.

Being human, it is very easy for us to become unsettled by the injustices we see around us, particularly those that impact us directly. It is true that we are always to seek justice wherever injustice prevails, but Psalm 37 calls us to lay aside any personal desire for revenge against others. We can live in confident faith even in an unjust world because our hope is in the God who vindicates His people.

With prayers for shalom, peace,

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein

Thank you dear friend. I don't envy my friend. Matter of fact I don't envy anyone. I never give to receive. Don't even think about it but am glad to be able to help in a time of need and then promptly forget about it. I am a very contented person and, while my income is limited, I always have the money to pay for anything unexpected that pops up (for which I give thanks to God). I guess I got to thinking about it the other day and was looking back and counting my blessings and marvelled at how much I have been blessed. Indeed "My God has supplied all my needs."

Thank you for sharing that with us. You have been repaid many times over for putting your faith in the Lord, I'd say. Connie, I can identify with your bewilderment of your neighbor--it seems that some folks just have a knack for things always coming up roses for them. I think maybe you are the more blessed between the two of you in knowing how to share and pay forward.

I agree that I am the more blessed. My friend and I have been friends for over 35 years and she is a good friend but she does get in a tizzy over every little thing.
