Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
"Shut up the words, --and seal the book, even to the time of the end;". God told Daniel to write the book but at the same time He let Daniel know the words would be sealed until the time of the end. This should let us know that everything written. commentary wise, concerning the Book of Daniel, in the years gone by, must be suspect as to their accuracy. Many pundits have brazenly avowed to know what the details of the prophecies mean. According to verse 4 the best they can do is guess. It has only been in the last few years that the resurgence of Islam as a threat to Jews and Christians has been seen as a possibility of being connected with the anti-Christ. As global jihad sweeps away peace in country after country we must realize this pagan religion as playing a great role in the end time prophecies. As many of us assume Islam, or a variant of it, will be the religion that ushers in the "Beast" of the Book of Revelation we must see in this fact alone that much of the prophecy in Daniel has been sealed. What started in Babylon will end in Babylon (Dan. 1:1 and Rev. 17:5) We have assurance though that as the time of the end nears we will be able to see much more clearly and all the prophecies will "click" and understanding will take hold along with the fear that it will bring to the unbelieving world. In the Book of Revelation we can see what I believe to be the unsealing of this Book of Daniel. Revelation 5:1-5 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? 3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. 4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
What follows beginning with Revelation 6:1 through 8:5 is the revealing of the sealed book. I believe this is the unsealing of the Book of Daniel and it's revelation of the details of the "time of the end". While the events in the Book of Revelation go beyond the Book of Daniel it is the events themselves that will make the Book of Daniel clear. All of the beasts shown in Daniel will be seen in a new light as the tribulation unfolds.
"Many shall run to and fro". Hustle and bustle without apparent destination and determination. In the little Book of Nahum we have a glimpse of the confusion of this time. Nahum 2:3-4 The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken. 4 The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings. This is a remarkable and accurate picture of the roadways of today with "chariots" as "flaming torches" running like lightning down the interstates and congested thoroughfares of the cities. Fords, Chevys, Hondas, Nissans and all the other makes competing on the highways with the resulting fender benders and crashes. Mass confusion, road rage, high blood pressure and constant tension stealing the mental peace that one so desires.
"Knowledge shall be increased". Without doubt one of the greatest marks of the generation we live in is the explosion of technology. The computer generation. Cars run on computers. Space ships and airlines are controlled by computers. We have computerized medical technology that will look inside of people and show what is going wrong. We have scanners at airports that strip you naked to reveal if you are carrying weapons. Communications are carried out by cell phones that receive their signals from towers a few miles away or from satellites hundreds of miles in outer space. We are "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." (2 Timothy 3:7) That truth is simply that we think we have enough knowledge and technology to control our destiny. In reality we run up against the ultimate truth which is that God knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10) and has declared it unto us. All of mans aspirations will end in ruin and destruction unless that goal has been to please our Creator, the ultimate scientist.
