This study brings a couple of questions to my mind: where IS Beersheba? Why did God seem to favor the men he did and make it so hard on others who loved him as much? There are other questions that came to me, but they aren't forming very well into anything that makes sense.

Beersheba is about half way between the Mediterranean Sea and the southern most tip of the Dead Sea. It is approximately 60 miles southwest of Jerusalem.

Well, I don't know about making it so hard on others who loved him just as much but the Bible gives the reasons for picking whom He picks: "the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)

When God looked on the inward Abraham, Moses, David, Paul, Peter etc. He saw something no one else could see. God chooses according to His knowledge of the person and the qualities he has. God equips those who answer His call on their lives.

This is very much a part of "election" where God chooses according to His will and purpose.

We may look on a person and think they are the most dedicated and loving Christian we have ever met but in some cases if you watch long enough the "warts" begin to show. God saw those "warts" before they were even born.
