Dad came through the surgery fine. He is in ICU, his Dr said that it was just a precaution because of his age and it was a long tough surgery. We saw him for a couple of minutes afterwards and he was in a lot of pain. They gave him a pump to use. He said that he didn't know much of anything except that it hurt and he could see. I guess that was one of the complications that could have happened is blindness. He was able to move his legs so there was no damage to the spinal cord. They didn't go in through his belly or side because he has an enlarged spleen. The Dr said that it was 3 times the size of a normal one and they would have had to move it out of the way and it was too much of a risk of it rupturing they went in through the back. Mom felt a lot better after seeing dad after the surgery. She is looking forward to him coming home, she does know that it will be a while before that happens though. Just keep praying for them both, it helps so much. I will keep you updated on his progress, it might just be a little note though. Take care.
Love,
Cathy

That is certainly encouraging. Praying he will continue to improve and that the pain lessens as his body repairs itself after such invasive surgery. God bless your mom (and you) too thru this trying time.

I realize I goofed, not explaining the report was sent by my niece to me from Montana.

And it is my brother in law that is in the hospital, the Mom being my sister, and not my Mom.

Anyway. here is the email Cathy sent me last night.

*******************************************************

Just wanted to send you a quick email to update you on dad's progress. They moved him over to Rehab yesterday and the Therapist says that he is doing really good. He has to wear what they call a Turtle Shell whenever he is up, not real comfortable but it gives a lot of support to his back. He is able to pretty much get out of bed by himself and back into bed also, just slow going of course. The therapist suggested that dad keep a journal so that when he didn't feel like he was making much progress or thought that the pain was bad he could look back in the journal and see how far he has come. They had him up and walking for 45 min. today with no sitting down, dad said he was pretty tired after that. Anyhow dad is coming along really well, the Lord has really Blessed him for sure. I am off to bed now got church in the morning.
Love,
Cathy

she also told me they fused 7 of his vertebrae together. But that he was up the next day. Which they usually do whenever possible anymore.

Really appreciate the prayers for him, and also for Nancy and all too.

I'm happy to read that he's doing so well, and I will keep him in my prayers that he gets to go home soon.

He came home this week end. Cathy said they were very pleased at how well he is recovering under the circumstances.

They said it helped being as active as he is. As he is older than I am, and still out there unloading trucks. He is a supervisor for a trucking company in Montana, where they live. But did not realize he was still unloading yet. As he is older than I am by a couple of years. Which is how the accident happened in the first place. He will be in rehab for a while, and not able to return to work if he wants to, for some time now. Cathy sent me some pics of some xrays of all the hardware he had put in his back. That looked horrendous in itself. Miraculous though what they can do today.

luv Sandy

Thanks for letting us know. It sounds like he will be on the mend for awhile, so I will continue to keep him in my prayers. Luckily, his years of hard work seem to be helping him in the healing huh?
