Genesis24:22-41 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold; 23 And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in? 24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor. 25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in. 26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD. 27 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren. 28 And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother's house these things. 29 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well. 30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well. 31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels. 32 And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him. 33 And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on. 34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant. 35 And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses. 36 And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath. 37 And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell: 38 But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son. 39 And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me. 40 And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house: 41 Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.

The focus in the last lesson was the "Bride". We saw her attributes and saw in her the things well pleasing to God in a Christian as the bride of Christ. The focus in this passage changes to the servant. If Rebekah is a type of the Church, Abraham a type of the Father in heaven with Isaac a type of the Bridegroom or Jesus Christ then we have in the servant a type of Holy Spirit. Notice that the servant was sent by the father who is Abraham. He has one mission and that is to "draw" a bride to Isaac. The commission was so urgent to Eliezer that he would not comfort himself until he had told his mission. If you will read through the passage you will see that Eliezer does not waste any time or words on his own importance. This is what Jesus said of the Holy Spirit in John16:13-15: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Any sect or denomination which magnifies the Spirit of God above Jesus and or the Father is a false sect. It is all about Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation it is about the second person of the Trinity and not the third.

Abraham's servant spoke only the things he had been instructed of Abraham to say. Everything Abraham had was being put into his son Isaac's hand and Eliezer was telling Rebekah these things. Everything the servant could say about Isaac was to Isaac's glory and honor that the prospective bride would desire him. Eliezer displayed the earthly treasures of Abraham but the Holy Spirit displays the heavenly riches to us.

It was imperative that someone be sent to tell the prospective bride about the one whom she had never seen nor heard of. This is the primary mission of the Holy Spirit to one who has never been drawn to Jesus for salvation. Notice what Jesus says about coming to Him in John6:44: "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." Had Rebekah not heard about Isaac and Abraham through the words of the servant she would not have been drawn to go to him. This is the way that God draws men and women to Him for salvation. Through the Word of God the Spirit convicts and convinces us all about God in heaven and His son Jesus Christ. All the preachers in the world cannot bring conviction on a heart if the Spirit of God is not working and wooing to convince a person of the truth of God's Word. Eliezer tells of the great wealth of his master and how it all is given into the hand of the son. "The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." (Psalm 24:1) This wealth goes to the Father's Heir and then by nature of the union of Jesus and His bride the Church it goes to all in the Church. Revelation21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 1 Peter1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Finally we see in the scriptures that it was to be Rebekah's choice. She had to decide. Eliezer could only tell her of the gracious and prosperous groom that waited on her if she chose to go. Eliezer was commissioned to carry the message and show evidence of the great wealth of the family she was being invited to be a part of. Once the message was delivered then Eliezer was free from his responsibility to Abraham. Eliezer would only be coming that way once. The Holy Spirit may call you more than once but He only has to do it once and His obligation is finished. If God calls you about your need to come to Him for salvation I would urge anyone reading this to do so immediately. The Spirit does not have to bring conviction on your soul again.

The moral to the story is this. The Spirit of God has to come your way to speak to you about salvation and accepting Jesus as Saviour. That is His responsibility. Jesus told His disciples in John12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all menunto me. Jesus was lifted up at Calvary and since that time has been drawing all people unto Himself. The agent used is the Holy Spirit taking the words of preachers and witnesses who are true witnesses and testifying of the truth. This is why it is so important to know the Word of God and use it instead of your own words. Truly your own words can be used but they must reflect the truth God has given us in his Bible. Fables and fairy tales won't get the job done. The Holy Spirit cannot use false doctrine to bring conviction because He is not going to bear witness to a lie.

Eliezer told the truth, all the truth and nothing but the truth. He repeated only what Abraham had told him and as a result, as we shall see, Rebekah was drawn to Isaac and followed the servant to her new home.

As a 12 year old boy one time in Thornhill Baptist Church in Frankfort Kentucky I heard the wonderful gospel of Christ and was convicted in my heart of the truth of the words. I stepped out on faith trusting and believing the words of God's servant and was saved. John6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. I received Jesus and He received me unto Himself. That has been 51 years ago. My next step is to follow the Spirit home. When the call comes from heavens portals to "come up hither" (Rev. 4:1, Rev. 11"12) God's Spirit will lead me home.

Amen .

It is all about Jesus. Every page , every word is intended to point us to our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus.
"
John6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. I received Jesus and He received me unto Himself. That has been 51 years ago. My next step is to follow the Spirit home."

Ever since I was a young girl , I wanted to know everything about Jesus . I still have the same love, hunger and desire which drives me daily to His Word. I believe as well that it is the power of the Holy Spirit to guide us into the pages of Scripture , causing us to learn.

And as a young girl I knew in my heart what Christ did on the cross for me. I never parted from that truth - I can't part from that truth - the conviction is that strong.

The most wonderful experience in this life for me was hearing and answering His call and to remain in continual commune with my Saviour .

I thank our gracious God who is still saving souls this day .

Rejoicing always,

Julie

Thank you for your input. You are missed greatly around here.
I hope you will set aside a little time at least weekly to drop by and share with us.

I, as others, miss your gifted poetry which magnifies our Lord as well as your input into the studies posted here. You have always shown a deep understanding of God's truths as He has set them forth in His Word.

Truly once you get deep into the Word of God you can literally find Jesus on every page.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (Jn. 1:1)

Lately I am pulled in alot of directions --all good ones, though -thanks be to God.

Will try to be here a bit more.

Today , I have to finish proof-reading Bible lessons that are set to be published this year.

I also have to set time aside to get someone else published.

When I come here , I don't want it to me for a few mini-seconds.

I like to be at this forum with a cup of tea or sandwich and take time to read all that it is here.

It's just hard to do that - but I am able to today.

I've missed you too,

Julie

We like for this to be the place you come to rest. I think of it that way, too. That is why sometimes I don't post for a day or two. I don't ever want to skim this place. It is my Online sanctuary. 8-) God bless you, Julie, in all that you do to bring Christ to those you know by your example.
xoxo
