Hello,
I am a somewhat healthy 25year old female who has lived with Cystic Hygroma all my life. I can't say it was easy! Kids make fun, missing alot of school, hospitals. Other kids could never touch my toys because any germs could make me sick, no sports because I might get hurt and hemerage. As I got older I learned to hide the physical part of cytic hygroma and fit into society just fine. Now a days people can't tell even if they tryed. If they want to abort the baby because it's brain damaged, go for it. But to do it because it's not considered normal to Dr's or society, then I say who are they to play God!

I have to say, God does work! Keep the prayers coming. I will add your family to my prayer list! We may not understand it, but he does.

I was born with the birth defect called cystic hygroma too. Dad was in the Navy and I was born in Iceland, then sent to Bethesda Naval hospital at two weeks old. Mom and Dad were told three things (roughly): if you believe in God, pray. Have your daughter baptized; she does not have long to live. She may not live through this. Things went well that day. Then when I was 15 I had reconstructive surgery. I now have a z scar on my neck from a french type of recnstuctive surgery. I have to say I had the best doctors in the world!!! Well besides the original OB/GYN doctors that delivered me..but remember..those type of doctors do not know any better!

I am 29 now, and enjoy life grandly! I am the only one besides Mom that really notices the scar on my neck. Sometimes I catch people staring in line at the store or such and I stare back and ask if I can help them...then most timess proceded to tell them I was in an awful mugging, the gang sign was a z. Myself, well..humor works well for me, why roll around in the sadness of it. I am such a stronger person because I have gone through this.

Some people that were born with cystic hygroma can not talk clearly or hold they head up. I hold my own head up and speak pretty well. In fact so well, I am told to put a cork in it often. Enough about me, email me, I can listen as.

One thing...that song of Natalie Merchant..Wonder...It is as if it is about me...listen to it..."Fate smiled at destiny!" The fuel to survive is there, just look around...Shalom and God Bless!
