É a primeira vez na história do tênis de mesa que o Brasil consegue classificar cinco jogadores para os Jogos Olímpicos de Tênis de Mesa.

Os 5 representantes do Brasil são: Hugo Hoyama, Thiago Monteiro, Hugo Hanashiro, Lígia Santos e Mariany Nonaka.

Hugo Hoyama, Thiago Monteiro e Lígia Silva se classicaram no individual,Hugo Hanashiro se classificou na dupla masculina com Hoyama e Mariany Nonaka classificou - se na duplas feminina com Lígia Santos.
